In the meantime, he paces the clearing, re-checks the materials. Counts the contents over and over, revising his plans. 

Anything to keep himself from tracking the time too much. 

Still, his eyes drift, and the jittery feeling sticks. 

Zedaph tabs, then check the comms, his eyes drawn to Doc’s name. He is present, on the server, and by the looks of it, active. And there are five minutes to their meeting time with no cancellation message, so he holds out hope. Even if he holds the comms white knuckled. 

The sky remains clear and the sun bright. Zedaph stares at the trees from the chest he is sitting on, tapping the back of his hooves against the chest, jumping at every sound around him. 

He jumps off the chest, looking to the sky when he hears a rocket exploding. The gloom vanishes when he sees Doc landing, rushing to him in excitement. He smiles at him, flinching back when he notices the frown on Doc’s face. The shadows falling over his face, deepening the lines and making his bionic red eye glow harshly. 

“Am I late?” Doc asks, trying to hold back the annoyance on his tone. 

His heart stops, and he lies with a smile. “Late? Oh, no. You are perfectly on time, Doc. I got here just now and sat down.”

“Right,” Doc mouths, shrugging his elytra off. “So– So what did you want to do today? I’ve been busy this morning, so I couldn't read our chats.”

Zedaph opens his mouth to reply, but he fixates on the tension on Doc’s shoulders. The way he glances at his comms, brow deepening further and further. The words die on his tongue, and his lips are dry when he closes his mouth. Doc sighs, pinching his brow. 

“I– Sorry, Zed. Can we do this another day? I– There is business—”

“No,” Zedaph jumps in, and Doc startles, looking at him for the first time, “I mean, don’t worry about me—this. You… You go sort out your—”

“Are you sure? I’m really sorry, Zed, you know…”

He shakes his head, puts on a brave smile. “I’ll see you another time then!”

poor zed. he needs a hug also, the reason why doc is grumpy is because he needs to go back to skyblock jail. he got time off to help zed but is too grumpy to take his moment of freedom rip the goats
