Mannnn im curious about that mikuru blanket ban. Fuck em up!!!! Talk yo shit!!!!!
it's really just that she's a really easy target for questions like that. the fact that the narrative, for the most part, treats her pretty poorly; even setting aside her role early on as the most common target of haruhi's power tripping
overhauling the way they handled her, or at least how they showcase and portray it and the severity of it, is a really easy go-to when someone asks about things you'd change. the computer club scene and that one scene in sigh make melancholy and sigh both pretty hard for me to revisit
(though i do still revisit them with decent regularity! i try to reread canon material from time to time so i know i'm not getting too in my own head about these things)
tl;dr mikuru's position as torture magnet and (in the anime) fanservice doll make her pretty uncomfortable to read about/watch most of the time; so "if i could change one thing it would be the Everything About Mikuru" feels like a standard answer to me.

3. Which of your fics is criminally underrated?
Oooh, this is a tough one! A lot of my stuff's shorter, and Haruhi stuff is already kind of a niche and I've found a little niche within it that I know mostly appeals to me. I guess I'd have to say i made a map of your stars?
g. Which section was most difficult to write?
The ending, hands down, because I wasn't sure where to end something that was so very stream-of-consciousness thoughts as I was writing it. Eventually I settled on drifting from thoughts on the past and present into the future, but I'm not sure I nailed the landing. The specifics of it are just because I had like, half a dozen Tanabata-themed WIPs in mind at the time.
Which post-disappearance stories do you think would be the most interesting translated to animation?
in terms of 'they could do something interesting with the medium of animation compared to the original light novel', one thing i'd like to see would be how they'd approach editor in chief; given that yuki and mikuru's short stories are provided as written in the novel and provide insight into their perspectives and writing styles. i think distinct animation styles would be a fun way to translate that! mikuru's illustrations could be a guideline for hers, but i wonder how they'd try to get across the atmosphere of yuki's story?
the other ones i really want i don't know if they'd do anything interesting animation-wise with, but limiting myself specifically to short stories:
love at first sight, snow mountain syndrome, and random numbers all cover the aftermath of disappearance, so they're obvious picks story-wise; and then the melancholy of mikuru asahina sets up intrigues as the next major story arc
of course i'd be jumping up and down for intrigues or surprise or even seven wonders but as far as immediate followups to where the anime left off, the immediate post-disappearance stories make the most sense. editor in chief gets a pass because they have a very easy way to make the animation totally different for half of it.

very cute conceptually! that said i feel like there's a lot to be said about how everyone (other than kyon and even then a little bit) is putting up a front in front of haruhi in particular, and that lack of honesty very much gets in the way of any potential relationships
that said i can absolutely see the appeal and there's some adorable fanart, this one gets a solid 8/10 from me! there's definitely some serious potential there
*finally*, here's a fanfiction based off of the wonderful @ze-pie ‘s pictures of the three of them in thigh highs. I really recommend checking their art out, it's really amazing! They're really worth the follow, if you love good art, nice line art, and bright colours. Links to them below.
Amethyst had been the one to bring up the idea. She mentioned it casually, in that "no big deal if you don't want to" way she used whenever something was important to her, and she couldn't stand outright rejection.
Peridot practically fell over herself in her hurry to agree, asking where the place was, and what going there would involve doing. Lapis had agreed a little more casually, stating that if the other two were going, she'd come along.
Apparently, it was opening tonight, and Amethyst just so happened to be a friend of the promoter. She also said they couldn't wear their regular clothes; so they all bundled into the Dondai and drove into town for a shopping trip.
Vidalia was a rather agreeable human, and she was happy to help them find outfits, even if her store was mostly t-shirts. There was a rather large discount bin with various clothing in the front, so they all started searching through that.
Peridot found a perfectly matching outfit almost immediately, pulling out a dark purple three-quarter sleeve shirt; a short, pleated skirt just a shade lighter; and a matching pair of thigh-high socks with little blue aliens on them.
Amethyst grabbed a pair of rainbow thigh-high socks and some white short shorts, trying them on in the back. She decided to keep her black tank top, enjoying the contrast of her outfit. Peridot offered her a sweater, and even if she couldn't really get cold, Amethyst couldn't find it in her heart to refuse it.
Lapis took the longest. Finally, after looking through three deep boxes, she found a crop top exactly like the one she wore normally, only covered in sequins. She also liked the look of a pair of bright pink stockings, and a layered electric blue skirt. The edges of the fabric were a little frayed, giving it a semi-ripped style that seemed popular.
A quick thanks to Vidalia and a payment later, they were back on the road. Peridot sat in the back, watching jealously as Lapis casually rested her hand on Amethyst's thigh, giving it a quick squeeze. Amethyst was coaching her on driving, since she looked too short to be behind the wheel. Softly, a slightly staticky radio station played through the back speakers, the volume going up every once in a while, when Amethyst liked the song.
The club was crouching on the outskirts of another small town, and the parking lot was choked with traffic. Amethyst instructed Lapis to pull into one of the "staff reserved" spots, claiming that it put aside for them.
She grabbed each of their hands and cut around the line, walking in between the velvet ropes. She happily greeted the bouncer, introduction Lapis and Peridot as "my girlfriends, you remember?" with a casual nod and cool smile, they were breezed into the VIP section, to a table with some bottles in ice.
Inside was very loud, but Lapis found the way she could feel the vibrations in her whole body intoxicating.
Amethyst poured herself a couple of drinks, a mix of motor oil and "the good stuff". She offered two without the slick to her companions. Peridot took one sip of it and gagged. She had a more delicate palate than the other two, and didn't appreciate the acrid burn and bubbles that rose back up in her throats when she swallowed. Lapis, while much milder in her reaction, expressed a similar distaste for the alcohol.
Soon, a purple hand pulled them onto the dance floor, leaving "just for a minute" to find some friends. She undulated slightly, unsure of how she was supposed to act. Peridot looked completely lost as she tried to search the crowd for Amethyst.
Lapis noticed that all of the humans were dancing, either in circles of several people, or in pairs. The pairs were very close together, and some of them were kissing, wandering hands pulling the other other closer. She subtly wound her arm around Peridot's waist, pulling her so their hips bumped together a little as she swayed.
Peridot turned around, looking alarmed. "Hey, relax. Just try to blend with the humans." Lapis said under her breath. "Think of this like a bit of in-field research; trying to understand human behaviour. Ok?"
The green gem took a deep breath and nodded, awkwardly attempting to sway. She wasn't quite on rhythm, and Lapis sighed, turning her so they were front to front, twining their fingers together, each subtle twitch leading Peridot through the motions.
Lapis lost track of the time, closing her eyes and feeling the music flow down and through her, a waterfall of rushing and roaring emotions. She was floating in the sound waves, and she hadn't felt this relaxed in a long time.
Each sensation seemed to be amplified, ringing and echoing off of the steel girders, the laser lights she could see through her eyelids, the bodies of the people around them, and most of all, the feeling of Peridot in front of her.
Every part of their bodies seemed to be touching, and if Lapis believed in souls, she would've felt like both of them were coming together. It almost made her want to fuse, but she held back. She wasn't fully sure if she ever wanted to try fusion again, and this wasn't the time or the place to attempt it.
Peridot felt her insides tingling as Lapis moved closer, shuddering a little as they came closer together. She bit her lip, wondering if she should kiss Lapis now. She decided against it, contenting herself with observing her girlfriend. Lazuli seemed particularly affected by the music, smiling a little as she danced.
This entire scene was a bit too loud and chaotic for Peridot's tastes, but she was drawn in by Lapis, everything in the periphery fading away.
"Hey, there you two are! Am I interruptin' anything? C'mon, I want you to meet some of my friends." Amethyst yelled over the music, clapping a hand on both of her girlfriend's shoulders and stifling a chuckle as they both jumped. "The music's great, huh? One of the most powerful things humans ever made."
Amethyst took them, posthaste, to a corner of the club near the DJ. They were taken behind the massive speakers, which immediately made the deafening roar lower to a much more acceptable level. Peridot looked relieved. She'd always been very sensitive to noise, and loud places weren't exactly in her comfort zone.
They were pulled into a little booth, awkwardly pressing against each other as Amethyst stood by the table, introduction them to the strangers they were now sitting with. Lapis didn't get all of the names, but their flamboyant styles and brightly colored hair ensured that she wouldn't forget their faces. Peridot actually grabbed a crumpled receipt and scribbled out a list, much to the amusement of everyone else.
From there, the rest of the night passed hazily. A cycle was established. First, one or two more drinks, then a few minutes of semi-awkward conversation, until they couldn't take it and escaped to the dance floor.
The group of three danced in pairs, one of them always staying behind to linger at the table. Amethyst stayed back the most often, but every once in a while, she'd go dance with Peridot or Lapis.
Only at the last song, a few minutes before closing time, did they all dance together. Amethyst's eyes had widened, and she'd screeched, saying that this was her favourite song, and they HAD to dance to it.
Everyone on the floor seemed to agree, all of them jumping around to the beat at the same time, fists held high in the air. Amethyst was dancing in a very "interesting" way, her feet splayed out, and her hips shaking.
Peridot's mouth dropped open, and she shuddered as Lapis came up behind her, wrapping her hands around Peridot's waist and grinding her hips against Peridot's back. She'd seen many others doing it, and Peridot was soft. She ended up sandwiched in between them, her face on fire as they exchanged a conspiratory glance.
When the song was over, she couldn't help but feel confused as they pulled away, slipping through the crowd as if nothing had happened. She shook it off, knowing that they loved teasing her, especially in public. Now that the music was gone, she realized just how tired she felt, and she just wanted to head back to the barn and sleep.
Amethyst thanked her friends for the invitation, and a few high fives later, they were outside in the cold early-morning air.
Dawn was breaking as they drove back, windows rolled all the way down and music blaring as they sped down the back country roads.
Lapis wasn't a fantastic driver when sober, and she hadn't expected the ethanol to affect her as much as it did. She nearly crashed into a fence at one point, the sunlight in her eyes and her lazy grip on the wheel consorting together. She hadn't even realized the car was listing until she felt the rough jolt of the dirt shoulder of the highway instead of the smooth pavement of the highway.
Thankfully, that was the closest they came to danger, soon pulling safely into the large grassy field near the barn. Amethyst didn't know they'd put in a bed. Apparently, she needed to visit more often to keep up with what was going on.
They all collapsed onto the soft mattress together, Peridot in the middle, with Lapis and Amethyst cuddling up to her on either side.
Amethyst fell asleep almost immediately, snoring quietly, her hair tickling Peridot's neck. Lapis looked down at her and smiled tiredly, leaning in to share a few more gentle kisses, before she dropped off as well. Peridot smiled, feeling lucky that she'd managed to find such beautiful gems to go out with.
