We have Cara Liss who has a working fossil revival technique. The thing is that all of the four fossils regularly found in Galar and that can be revived are incomplete. Two only contain the upper body with heads, the other two are the lower body. She combines them into chimeras that likely won’t survive beyond a few years, if not much less. She claims that they were all real pokemon from the past.

Eternatus’ body is skeletal. And even if it wasn’t revived, SwSh strongly implies that it was ‘resting’ in a similar way to the Wolves who maybe had once tombstones dedicated to them. All three of them were in one way or another forced to come back and battle.

Also, like the chimera fossils, Eternatus is incomplete. There’s countless Wishing Stars used in Dynamax bands and other devices. Wishing Stars and Wishing Pieces litter across Galar.

The mayor Gym Leaders are expected to fight for the Champion title. 

They and the Champions are regularly in the spotlight. When they are, they have to keep up a mask. Many of them are afraid of the public gaining even just a glance under that mask because it lead to backlash.

Like Ash just casually riding the back of Zacian while Pikachu is as Zazamenta and he’s talking their ears off about his travels because they seemed interested or that’s what Pikachu interpreted for him since he can’t understand them as well as he can with Pikachu. They two are listening and genuinely enjoy the trainers recounting’s as they help him get past thick foliage and sharp thorned vines or just padding down a well beatened path.

The most common variations from the area end with the Wolves mortally wounded for protecting their new homes and being laid to rest in the woods they met the children. They’re buried with their weapons, a sword and a shield.

Hop screams when he makes the connection between the beloved bedtime story he regularly had begged his mom and Leon to tell and the two Legendaries he met in the Slumbering Weald.

There is no inherent connection aside the ‘knight vs dragon’ motif, the colors, the sleeping, and a sense of ‘we’re relatively old and maybe eternal’ (and they feel different from each other in the last point).

But that also means there’s very little that connects them thematically and narratively in powers, not even as contrasts or opposites.

Eternatus

- main power is warping space around themselves to get more powerful

- is likely part poison type because the Dynamax Energy can become uncontrollable and make pokemon go into rage

- absorbs its own energy for a power boost

- pokemon attacks don’t hit when they’re powered up; maybe relates to spatial warping?

Zacian and Zazamenta

- their Legendary Hero state stops Eternatus from evading pokemon attacks

- their weapons power them up => Legendary Hero state

- their howls seem to be able to do something

- no pokemon attacks can hit them when Hop and MC encounter them in the Weald’s fog

Zacian and Zazamenta’s powers messing with invasive reporters and camera crews, especially around Postwick.

- Recorders and cameras stop working.

- Audio recordings are corrupted to static, contain copies of music from nearby radio stations, muttering voices that can’t be understood, or outright horror sounds. Or the microphone got turned off somehow. ;)

- Videos turn up blank, filled with static, strange image, scraps from random movies and TV series, or unsettling images.

:) Also. When they have staff somewhere farther back that monitors that the cameras and microphones work... They think they’re in contact, but somebody impersonates both groups’ voices while intercepting the connection. :)
