Another portrait of a grahluu. This one is from a cold region, and is travelling with a rather small caravan. They are part of the rhyl'grahluus, the taller subspecies adapted to colder climates.
Angry grahluus instinctively move their neck plates forward, using a set of muscles to raise them from the skin. The process is uncomfortable at best, often painful, and is more of a vestigial thing from their pre-sapience era.
This is one of the many reasons grahluus tend to be a peaceful species: being angry is painful.
I need to think a bit more about ambulophytes life cycles, but I like the idea of elders turning into sessile plants, grahluus creating small gardens where elder ambulophytes can rest til time ends and grahluu caravans comes back from time to time to gather new seeds to have new young ambulophytes for their herds. These cradle-gardens could definitely become important parts of a caravan's journey, a recurring location one or multiple groups gather to every cycle or number of years to get new livestock and take care of the elder ones. [Sorry for this less.. formatted post, I'm pretty anxious about posting these kind of quick and dirty thoughts but also that's kinda what Tumblr is for, right?
Two working attires from the town of Pitruse, the name coming from Puits-de-Céruse. It's a mining and industrial town, with lead, zinc, copper and silver mines, the two latter being found in the veins of lead.
The name actually comes from a wrong translation of the vichrom name. Indeed, for vichroms, sounds and colors are heavily linked, as they are both waves. And they named this town because of how loud it was, due to all the mining and industries.
Lots of soundwaves was poorly understood by humans, translating it to lots of lightwaves, leading to white.
The white color you can make using lead is the céruse white, hence the current human name.

Grahluus!
The grahluus, also referred as "desert goblins" by humans, are the native sophont species of Zaenerth.
They are a mostly nomadic species, all of their cultures spanning across the planet via tribes, clans and other kindoms (no typo here, it's kin and not king). Sometimes, settlements will arise, more often than not, they are temporary stops until the group moves until next season or year. Rare permanently settled towns exists, and they serve as waypoints for many nomadic groups.
Grahluus are an extremely social species, mostly pacific and highly welcoming, even in the most conservative and cautious cultures. This caused their homeworld to be an extremely easy target for human corporations and opportunists alike.
The Face Hoarder
An exiled metalfolk roams the arid landscapes of Zaenerth, on their uncannily long legs and wearing a dark and dusty coat just as long. Dozens of faces are hanging from it, staring with soulless eyes in all directions, all different yet all from the same being.
All the faces they used to have. Unlike the featureless, eyeless void of gold, last mirror offered to the rest of the world. This exile came back from the afterlife because of love, they are now a husk of their former self, roaming amongst the living like a passing ghost.
On Why Purebreed Horses are Immense Treasures and Bioengineered Mess
Horses are a rare and luxurious commodity on Zaenerth, and finding an unmodified purebreed horse is largely harder than finding a needle in a pile of fungrass.
The reason for this rarity is simple: horses, and a lot of other animals of Earth, have a hard time travelling through the Faraday's Current. The first attempts of bringing livestock and mounts in other stellar systems often resulted in severe illnesses, cancerous growth, or sudden death. And then there's the Faraday's Sleipnir incident..
Wealthy groups or individuals managed to find vichroms generous enough to bring their horses with them, via cryosleep, but even then incidents occurred.
It just seems that space doesn't like horses very much.
Humans had to adapt on the different worlds they settled in, often using local wildlife or domesticated life as mounts, or creating automatons mimicking the equine beasts.
On Zaenerth, finding someone on a horse, a real horse, is often sign of wealth. Or they stole it.
In the middle-late Golden Space Age, genetically modified breeds of horses were created, in an attempt to withstand the effects of the Current on them. It worked, to some extant, resulting in horses that were powerful, with incredible health and regenerative abilities, but also wilder, with short temper and more often than not…. Explosive and destructive outbursts of rage, fear, sadness or joy.
The joys of the Current, mixed with the stubbornness of men.
