Review: Sony Xperia Z5 Compact

In October came the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact, the latest addition to Sony’s smartphone line. We took the unit under scrutiny.

New Sony Xperia: compact and stylish

Is immediately apparent that Sony with its Xperia Z5 Compact again opt for a sleek appearance. It is available in gray, white, yellow and pink, and we must say that the gray version we tested has a very nice professional look. The device is like we are used from Sony’s Xperia line rectangular, with a round finish at the corners. It seems the device which thick with dimensions of 127 x 65 x 8,9mm, but once you have it in your hands, you do not notice here. The weight is 138 grams contrast significantly with.

At the front we find a 5MP camera on the back is a 23MP camera, which is more than fine for an average smartphone. In addition to 4K video capture, which currently only can the high-end smartphones.

The choice for the buttons of the Sony Xperia Z5 Compact comes at us but a bit odd. On the right you will find in the middle of the on / off switch including integrated fingerprint sensor, beneath a small volume control and a button for the camera to take pictures. For an average smartphone user, this may be something strange, since the buttons are usually higher on the device. At the bottom we find – well, as usual – a micro-USB port to charge with the device. Sit to the left to lock two inputs for micro-SD cards and one for your SIM card. These inputs are nicely hidden under a cover that fits perfectly with the rest of the design.

Use

The device has a pretty sharp 4,6-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280×720. a nice small size. Especially Android users will quickly and intuitively using the device can handle, because there is little change to the Android 1.5 operating system Lollipop over previous Android versions. What is new is that you can open four small applications by tapping on the rightmost button on the screen. The button will bring you to the screen where you close applications while you below four small icons. These let you open a browser, timer, calculator or the ability to take screenshots. These four options appear as small screens on your device, which you can access through other applications. The closure of these programs is done by simply clicking on the cross. Pleasant, because if you want a quick count anything out or to set a timer, you do not stop your work.

That the device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit Octa-core, quad-core 2.0 GHz Quad-core 1.5 GHz with 2GB of RAM, it shows. Applications start smoothly on and continue to work fast, no matter how many apps you have open on the Z5 Compact. The device also has nice animations for various components, such as opening menus, without however giving up speed. The disadvantage is that the device soon feel warm. This may mean that the machine gets overheated quickly, but it can also stay with a little warmth. What exactly it is, we do not know, but we experience it as slightly worrying. Well nice is that the battery lasts for two days, so you never have to worry about a low battery.

Conclusion

The Sony Xperia Z5 Compact is a beautiful device that does what it should do just fine. The device is fast, easy to use and has some nice features. The battery life of two days, we find very pleasant, because you worry about a dead battery is never pleasant. It is a pity that the television will warm quickly and that several buttons are located in some strange places. Here you can however get used to, so this is not such a big problem.
