There was an audible plop as the little trinket began a rapid decent into the depths, a few stray bubbles welling up against the waterâs surface as if it were screaming for help. Looking at the square of lake that it had just disappeared into, Jade considered it rather thoughtfully, finally deciding that it would be rather unfortunate to let Yuuâs possessions sink into the murky silt for all eternity.Â
Crouching by the waterâs edge, he skimmed the surface with his fingers, wishing it was cooler to the touch. Colder water was always better. And it had been awhile since heâd given up legs for the more natural feel of a tail. Though he hadnât tried switching back to the mer form he was accustomed to since arriving, surely it would not hurt to try. But then again, there was that pressing little inconvenience of losing the ability to cast so much as a puff of smoke. Or could he? Did blot exist here? Rolling the sudden questions piling in the wake of the predicament before him, Jade wondered why it hadnât occurred to him to ask anyone yet. This was certainly a him problem, though he couldnât shake the sinking feeling he got whenever hitting Rock Bottom, literally and figuratively.Â
These questions and more would be answered with time, and he filed them all away with the growing list of hypotheticals and what ifs that seemed to grow to mountainous heights by the day. Regardless, none of this was helping a certain Ramshackle dormâs sole resident and prefect in this time of dire straights.Â
Glancing at Yuu in this almost nonexistent instance where he had to look up to meet their eyes, he propped his cheek against his hand. âIf you care enough about that thing I can retrieve it for you.â Laughing to himself at a comical thought that crossed his mind, he offered the alternative.Â
âOr you could dive down for it yourself. But donât worry, Iâd be right here to supervise.âÂ
Whether that was taking as a joke or not, he was willing to do either or- though he felt it was safe to assume that if Yuu chose to dive in themselves, the task would take longer than necessary. That illusion of choice, however thin it was, still stood. The prefect did seem to have a tendency to make things more complicated for themselves than necessary. If it was pride driving them or just plain folly he wasnât sure. But it certainly was interesting watching them struggle through any number of situation that honestly did not require their involvement.Â
Ah but that bleeding heart- or at least thatâs what he thought it was truly did drive people to do the unpredictable. If nothing else, Yuuâs tendency to get entangled in the middle of a great deal of conflict made for the most interesting situations and it would be a flat lie to say that Jade didnât find all of it simply fascinating. Humans were a more resilient bunch than heâd thought.Â
âAnyways dear prefect, the choice is yours.âÂ
