paradise lost by the used and ceres?
Ceres woke up with a massive headache. Yeah, okay, he had to admit, he kinda went overboard with different substances the night before, but it was nothing new for him, was it? He couldn’t understand why this time it left him with a hangover. He groaned and pressed his hand against his forehead, rubbing his eyes, then finally opened them. Everything was blurry and unfocused. Ceres blinked twice, trying to make it better - it felt like forever til he could see in focus again.Â
“Beer.” he thought. “I could use some beer.”Â
He stood up, and fell back down almost immediately. His vision went back to black. Fuck me, what did I take? He knew the question’s pointless - whatever it was, he wouldn’t remember anyway. Beer. Ceres reminded himself. Beerbeerbeerbeer. He rubbed his eyes again and stood up again, slower this time. He felt dizzy, his knees were shaking under his weight, but he didn’t fall. Ceres looked around for his phone - he had no idea what time it is, and Truce probably texted him. He couldn’t find it. He groaned again and let out a loud “Fuck”. There was no way he’d lost it, was there? He didn’t have money to afford a new one if he did. Going to the fridge, he ran his hand through his hair, pulling it back into a messy bun. In the kitchen he ran into another problem - there was no beer.Â
“Motherfucker.” he said, probably a little too loud. “Really?” he looked around, hoping to find anything in one of the old cans and bottles scattered around the place. “Fuck” he groaned once again, grabbing a cigarette box laying on the table. Empty. Now he was getting angry. He chaotically searched through other boxes laying there, with no luck. His hands got shaky. “Come on, come on, come on.” After searching six boxes he finally found one. He quickly picked it up and grabbed a lighter that was next to the box. Lighting up the cig he decided to check the fridge one more time, in hopes that a beer magically appeared in there. No luck. He realized that sometimes Truce leaves some cans on windowsills, mainly to differentiate between their beers, so he checked that. His hopes went up when he saw some beercans through the window, but they were also empty.Â
Ceres heard a shuffling noise behind him, followed by someone softly whispering his name. “Truce?” he asked, quickly turning around. No one was there. He didn’t think much of it; he made his way back to the kitchen and hopped onto the counter, leaning his back onto the wall. There was a noise in the bedroom. He didn’t think much of it. He took a drag of a cigarette and his head felt heavy, every movement slowed down. It was unusual. He could feth el panic growing inside of him - ordinary cigarettes don’t do that, or at least shouldn’t. There was a noise in the bedroom once again. Ceres closed his eyes and took another drag. Pathetic. A foreign voice said, very clearly. His eyes opened wide immediately, making his head hurt - no one was in the room.Â
“Oh, no, fuck off, not now.” he whispered. He really wasn’t in the mood for dealing with that at the moment. He decided to text Truce, then he remembered he doesnt have his phone on him. After a little bit of thinking he realized they have a very old laptop in the apartment. He grabbed it from the table, ignoring the feeling of someone (something?) lurking just over his shoulder. He missed Truce - he had to go to a hospital a week earlier. Ceres liked to think he’s just on a break. With shaking hands he logged in, thanking Truce for not setting a password. At least this didn’t bite me in the ass, he thought. Thankfully, he was logged into his own account - he found the conversation with Truce and called him, hoping he could pick up the phone. He did.Â
“Hi.” Ceres heard, and immediately felt calmer.
“Hey, angel.” he said.Â
“What’s wrong? Did you lose your phone? I can ask Mira if she has a spare one…”
“Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t, not important right now. How are you feeling?” he asked and brought his cigarette to his mouth - it was all burnt up.Â
“Eh.” Ceres couldn’t see him, but he was sure Truce shrugged. “On meds, under observation, blah blah blah, boring shit, they won’t even let me smoke here. Assholes.”
Ceres laughed, carefully. He heard a glass break on the table, but didn’t look up.
“Everything okay?” Truce asked.Â
“Uhm, yeah.” Ceres lied, again. He didn’t want him to worry. “Nothing new.”
“Ceres.” Truce said, calmly. Ceres sighed at the voice. “You know I know you better than anyone. I know when something’s wrong.”
“I’m fine.” Ceres barked. He didn’t mean to sound that rude. “Fuck, sorry. I’m fine.”Â
“Would it help if I let you say whatever you won’t and promise I will not think about it later?”
Ceres nodded, then shook his head. “I just nodded.” he laughed. “Forgot you can’t see me.”Â
“Go on then.”Â
Ceres closed his eyes and allowed his head to fall back.
“I don’t know, it’s just. I miss you, and it’s not the same without you, and the uh. You know. That.” he really hoped Truce would understand, but then it hit him; of course he would. “Is worse again. And I think I’m scared. But there’s no reason to, right? I’ve been like this, well, forever. But it’s okay, because maybe if I get bad that’s gonna make you better? You know, there’s so much mental shit that can be going on in one household at once.” he chuckled. “So I could, I don’t know, hold the disease from you? Just keep it in me, I can handle it, and I don’t think you can. That’s, uhm, mostly it, I think.”Â
Truce was quiet for a moment. “Do you want to know what I think?” he asked. Ceres made a little noise that’s supposed to mean yes. “I think you deserve help, you just won’t accept it. And, just so you’re aware, it’s coming from me, out of all people. You can’t just hold it all back just to help me, you know?”
Ceres nodded quietly. Truce sounded upset, and he hated that, and it was all his fault, and everything was too loud, and he wanted to break every single thing around him including himself, and-
“Ceres?”
He took a deep breath. “Yes.”Â
“I love you.” Truce said. Ceres was taken aback - Truce wasn’t saying that a lot, and Ceres was fine with it, but every time he did it made Ceres feel things he was still kind of ashamed of.Â
“I love you too, angel.” he answered. He didn’t want to leave Truce worrying about him. “Uhm, one more thing?”
“What’s up?”
“I feel like I’ve been blessed with this curse my whole life, and it won’t let me shake the shadow.” he smiled, hoping his idea would work. It did - he heard Truce laugh loudly on the other side of the call.Â
“Did you really just quoted The Used to me?” he said, mid-laughter.
Ceres laughed too. “Yeah.” he proudly said.
“I changed my mind, I hate you.”Â
“You love me.” Ceres smirked. “And I’ve been listening to it a lot, and you can’t get me, bitch, you did the same earlier.”
Truce laughed again. Ceres could listen to that forever.
“Fuck you.”Â
Ceres smiled widely. “As soon as you’re back, baby.”Â
“Oh, I hate you so much.”Â
Ceres made kissing noises towards the laptop and smiled. Truce hanged up already, but it was okay - it was all okay. The apartment was quiet, his head wasn’t hurting. Everything was okay.
