Weâre proud to announce that Yulemaas is officially back, by popular demand! Both admin Annie and admin Isha are back on board to provide a 2017 secret santa gift exchange of fanworks relating to the Maas universe.Â
Because of the late start this year (finals, weâre both dying), weâve decided to make this yearâs Yulemaas a special holiday New Years event, where the posting period will occur in the first week of January, so every one has time to work on their gifts while still enjoying the holidays. At the moment, you can direct your questions to our ask here, or to either of the admins.
Please expect an updated sign up schedule very shortly.Â

Here is my super late Secret Santa for CosmicRhertoric for Yulemaas! I had had some issues over the holidays, but thankfully CosmicRhetoric was super understanding and nice!! I actually have another story to post for her, but itâs not letting me format it correctly for some reason but hopefully it will be up by tomorrow!
~
It wasnât the overarching stench of cheap alcohol or the loud, unoriginal music assaulting her ears that was infuriating her. No, Manon was used to those hindrances. After three years of working as the bartender at her grandmotherâs bar, she had become accustomed to the perfumed booze and an always replaying track list. What was irritating her was the absolute boredom that she had been wallowing in for the last five hours.
She had gone through all of her normal boredom exercises; washing the glasses, stacking the glasses, restacking the glasses, and then hoping the glasses would fall if only to give Manon something to do. Despite her attempts, her own watch betrayed her when it still showed that she had two hours until last call. Her freshly done nails clacked against the stained bar top, and she mused if their fine point would one day wear down the barâs cheap varnish.
She let out an undignified sighed and slouched a bit into her own barstool. If her grandmother caught her sitting down on the job sheâd probably find herself unemployed; but for once her boss wasnât working in her office. She was instead out of town, surely meeting with other shady business owners with their own ulterior motives. Manon herself was a tad peeved when she had learned she was not allowed to accompany her grandmother, but bit her tongue when she realized this meant her free reign over the bar. Her grandmotherâs absence truly was a double edged sword; when she was present, there were sure to be dangerous patrons, but thatâs what made the bar so lively and interesting. Now she was left with just the sad drunks who had nothing better to do with their insignificant lives.
Manon gave one final glance around the dimly lit establishment before pushing herself off of her seat. Coffee, she thought, coffee will make tonight more bearable. In one of the nightâs small mercies she found the pot where Sorrel had last left it and in acceptably clean condition. Manon had never been the caffeinated bartender of the group, instead leaving that role to their resident blonde and new mother, Asterin. Unfortunately for Manon, Asterin was also the only one who knew how to use the outdated contraption and was also not working tonight. With the birth of her first child, Asterin had been picking up less and less shifts at the bar, and while Manon loved the little devil baby she wasnât against offering up a halfhearted curse at it for stealing her cousin away from work.
She grimaced at the oddly shaped buttons before pouring in the coffee grounds and choosing âstart.â With nothing better to do she watched, albeit impatiently, as the coffee began to pour into the pot, meaning she had done at least something correctly. She was content to watch the pot fill up until she heard the cheesy bells attached to the front door begin their song as the heavy door barely opened and slammed shut. Manon whipped her head around to see who was invading the dull pattern of her night, expecting to see an already intoxicated man who had been kicked out of one of the nearby more respectable bars. Instead she found herself blinking to make sure she was seeing correctly.
In the small alcove of their entrance stood a small, sopping wet dark haired girl, shaking from the cold rain. She was obviously trying to wipe her muddy boots off on the mat, but eventually had to relent against the thick caking of dirt. Manon walked forward to her normal position at the bar to get a better look at the petit girl as she dropped her umbrella in the unused bin. She watched the newcomer who was coming towards her with peculiar interest, not breaking her stare even as the soaked girl walked towards her bar top. Manon noted the particular limp in the girlâs step as well as how she kept her head low, even as she climbed into the bar stool.
Never one for politeness, Manon sat back in her stool, sizing up the stranger instead of engaging in the tedious greetings that were expected of her. The girl was still dripping all over the chair and floor, and had not looked up from her lap despite the menu hanging high overhead. Manon could easily see how thin she was through the clothes that stuck to her, but could not gauge her appearance behind the black mop of hair that hung in her face. The clothes she wore were finer than typically seen in this side of town, but not overly flashy or branded. After a few more moments of useless staring she looked down to fiddle with her nails since the girl was evidently not going to order. Only a few mere seconds later she felt a noticeable stare burrowing into her and peaked up to see the girl looking directly at her with dark piercing eyes.
The girl quickly snapped her head back down at Manonâs awareness, but didnât stay down as long, this time glancing up at Manon to just barely meet her eyes. Manon smirked at the girl, and to her credit didnât waver as much as she expected her to. The girl blinked up at her with curious eyes and pursed lips, sitting idle for a few more moments before finally making a move.
âHello,â she started in a voice much too meek for her inquisitive staring. Manon found herself beginning to frown at this but quickly schooled her face into its normal, apathy laced expression. âDo you serve coffee this late?â
They didnât, but she already had the coffee brewing for herself so she decided to make an executive exception out of her own curiosity towards the new female.
âMost people donât order coffee at one in the morning,â Manon stated as she grabbed two mugs. The girl most certainly did not miss her hidden questioning.
âIâm not able to drink,â the girl offered as she pushed some of the hair out of her face. Manon squinted at this detail as she made herself busy. With a better look at her face she could see the girl still retained some of the baby fat on her cheeks which was only noticeable because of how stick thin the rest of her body was. Manon noted that the girl was pretty for an older teen, but not a woman yet. As Manon grabbed the beeping coffee pot, she decided that the girl was probably underage instead of pregnant, not that Manon cared enough about her age to kick her out. There were much worse things the authorities could bust the bar for than underage patrons.
She set a filled mug before the girl along with prepacked packs of sugar. Manon watched as the girl simply placed her shivering hands around the steaming mug and lightly smiled in a small appreciation.
âThank you MissâŚâ she trailed off and looked at her name tag, âMiss Manon,â she finished.
Manon huffed at the formalities, but didnât stop to correct her, âIf youâre going to address me by my name isnât it fair if I know yours?â
The girl tilted her head at this, pausing only for a moment to consider, âIâm Elide.â
At least she now had a name for the slip of a girl. She nodded her head a tad in response before tasting the coffee. She barely managed to not spit it out as she forced herself to swallow the thick, sour syrup that she had created. In a slight of embarrassment she silently thanked the Gods that Elide was only using the coffee to warm her hands, not believing Elide would manage to down the coffee as she had. Trying to lose the taste from her mouth, Manon decided to move the conversation along.
She looked over the counter at Elide now messing with her boot and decided to start there, âDid you mess up your heel?â Manon asked and took a fake sip of coffee. Her questions broke away from her solitary nature, but aided her in her abolishment of boredom.
Elide looked up at Manon, more relaxed than when she first walked in. âI, um, broke my ankle when I was younger.â
Manon rolled her eyes again at Elideâs fabricated timid nature. It was probably because of the shady bar, but it only painted a larger target on her back for a drunk man to go after. Though it was a different answer than she was expecting, Manon had believed that the heel of her shoe had simply come unattached; not that it was an actual injury. The crippled ankle only made Elide seem weaker, which was not a shining quality in this area of town. Maybe it was the late hour, the lack of human interaction, or maybe even the coffee, but Manon didnât drop the issue.
âYou need to drop that meek act of yours, it doesnât work and itâs certainly not charming.â Manon retorted flatly. Elideâs eyes widened a fraction and a bit of redness rose to color her cheeks, but Manon continued anyway. âYouâre smart enough to know you stick out like a sore thumb in this place, so you should be smart enough to know that seeming weaker just makes you seem like an easier mark.â
Elide looked down for a moment, but didnât argue back. Eventually she looked back up to meet Manonâs eyes, âI missed my train,â she admitted, âand this was the closest place open to the station.â Elideâs face flushed in her own embarrassment, but Manon couldnât help but note how the pink in her cheeks was appealing to her eyes.
Manon didnât miss how Elide avoided her rebuking, but it did make sense; the bar sometimes saw a few day customers who used the subway system, but never this late at night. She gave some thoughts into Elideâs possible employment but didnât ask after it.
âIs there another one running tonight?â Manon asked, not that she would admit it to herself, but she was a bit concerned about Elide walking home considering her ankle, the weather, and the area.
Elide looked up at one of the many clocks adorning the walls and her eyes widened a bit in surprise, a look that Manon admitted she found pleasant, âYes, actually mine is in just a few minutes, I didnât realize the time.â
Manon shook her head a bit at Elideâs unawareness, but felt a pang of unease at being left alone for the rest of the shift. She couldnât deny she found herself enjoying the girlâs company, but quickly abandoned those invading, but unhelpful thoughts. She looked back up to see Elide pulling out her wallet to which Manon declined
âThat coffee was an abomination upon this world, Iâm not going to charge you for it,â she stated, too tired to actually ring up the coffee anyway.
Elide gave a small smile before thanking her as Manon cleared the cups. She heard the Elide get out of her chair and pause for a moment, but Manonânever one for goodbyesâdidnât turn back around to see her leave.
After the mugs were set to soak she noticed the tip left for her at Elideâs seat, in which she found a grossly overpaid tip as well as a small note written in possibly the worst handwriting she had even laid her eyes on:
Thanks for the coffee, even if it was an âabomination upon the world.â I was wondering if you would like to meet up for some real coffee sometime?
Thanks for the hospitality,
Elide L.
Manon let herself smile for a short second and realized that maybe working alone had its perks after all.

Alright so this is my first time writing in a while, and I donât love it but I fiddled with it as much as a I could. I felt like I couldnât get Manonâs voice down sheâs too edgy but I love her. Also, I donât know how to format stories on here, itâs kind of weird. The one Iâm posting tomorrow I like a lot more, but I hope this is okay!Â
The admin team from @throneofglassminibang and @yulemaas are excited to start another Throne of Glass/ACOTAR event. Weâve decided we either want to do a mini or big bang and would like some input!
mini-bang: fic/artist collaboration. fics are 3k+ and accompanied by 1 full art piece. takes place over 3 months, with about 2 to create.Â
big-bang: fic/artist collaboration. fics are 15k+ and accompanied by 2-3 full art pieces. takes place over 6 months, with about 5 to create.Â
Hi! Is there a Yulemaas happening this year? I'd love to participate âĄ
Hi!Â
I would love to host a Yulemaas this year. However, it stands to note that both previous admins are full-time students, and we are crazy busy. I personally also am in multiple (other) fandom events such as zines and bangs and therefore have to keep up with those.
I am willing to run this event, but I will need help.Â
Real help, from people who are willing to dedicate time and effortâit takes a lot of work to sort participants, keep the blog running, write emails, organize, etc, etc. Do not underestimate it; although I as one person am capable of doing all the work, my schedule does not allow me enough time.Â
If anyone reading this is interested in being an admin, you can message me (admin Annie) at @riftlotor or send an ask to this blog. I know thereâs a lot of interest in this event, so Iâll put up a âlooking for adminsâ post soon.Â
Itâs that time of yearâYulemaas is coming around, and a lot of people are looking forward to sending each other gifts.Â
However, this year has been incredibly busy, so the Yulemaas team is looking for a few more admins to help out. I would ideally like to see three or four other admins, and Iâd like to stress that this event will not happen if no one helps out.Â
Duties include but are not limited to:
answering asks
posting updates
scheduling
creating graphics
sending emails
sorting participants
blog editing
check-in work and responses
This does take time and effort. If you do not have those to spare, please do not be an admin for Yulemaas.Â
I am willing to oversee the event as an experienced admin and to guide the team to host a successful Yulemaas. I am not willing to do it alone, and if mods do not do their part, I will not cover for them.Â
If you are interested in being an admin, please send an ask off-anon to this blog or to @riftlotor (admin Annie).Â

Lorcan Salvaterre, Lord of Perranth, had not been informed of the cadre of Fae warriors arriving in Adarlan.
His city informants had missed the tiny bit of information that Queen Maeveâs blood sworn males would grace him with their company at the glass castle that week, or the following months after that.
Damned Aedion, who had left with his bane earlier that week, had left him alone to deal with the insufferable fae, and Allsbrook had disappeared a month prior, claiming to have received a new lead concerning the lost princess of their kingdom, Terrasen.
Lorcan had refused to join their little rebel group, turning his back on the unnecessary risking of his life, as he had long accepted the fact that Aelin Ashryver Galathynius was murdered the same night her family suffered said fate.
Aedion and Lorcan had infiltrated Adarlanâs court and earned the Kingâs trust in hopes of finding out more about the night that the royal family was brutally murdered. They had come up empty handed. It had been ten years since their were branded traitors to their kingdom because they had bent the knee to Adarlan. Six years since Lorcan stopped playing his role in their little rebellion and settled down, making a name for himself in court. Three years since he had entered the kingâs closed ring of advisors. He still came around to their rebel meetings, only to make use of their Rifthold spies.
That was how he found out of Queen Maeveâs diplomatic party, without her majesty herself, of course. Maeve could not be bothered to attend this lowly mortal affairs.
The doors of the castle opened, revealing six beasts. In the sky, the biggest birds of prey he had ever seen soared, a hawk and an osprey. Below them, four massive predators snarled, two of which were identical wolves, one black and one white, while the two remaining were a mountain lion and a fox, possibly a vixen, who was slightly smaller than the rest of her companions.
Seconds later, the beasts are shifted into five hulking males, and a more petite female who inspired the same level of intimidation that her companions did.
From the front of the room, the king stood, with the queen and the princes to his side. In front of him stood his three assassin champions, a red headed woman, flanked by black haired and brown haired men. The fae cadre stood face to face with the royal assassins, both parties assessing, and recognizing, the threat in one another. The male who had once been a lion spoke first.
âWe come representing Queen Maeve of Doranelle. My name is Gavriel. These are my companions.â
âRowan.â The hawk stepped in.
âVaughan.â Added the osprey.
âFenrys.â The white wolf.
âConnall.â The black wolf.
At last, the female stepped in front of them, providing Lorcan with a clear view.
âElide.â
Lorcanâs breath was ripped away from him, and his heart rate betrayed him. The woman, female, in front of him was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen.
Another female voice interrupted him from his stare, and Ansel of Briarcliff spoke up.
âIt is a honor to meet you. Tales of you have reached our kingdom, and they speak highly of you. My name is Ansel of Briarcliff, and this are my partners, Sam Cortland and Nox Owen. I trust that you have been informed of our purpose here at the castle.â
âIndeed. Stories of you, as dishonorable as they may be, have reached Doranelle alright.â Rowan growled.
The King of Adarlan roared with laughter, stepping between his assassins.
âCareful, Prince Whitethorn. These three are as ruthless as I am powerful. It wouldnât be wise to cross them. Now, I believe certain courtiers of mine have offered to show your our kingdom, to discuss commercial relations with your queen. I trust that you will be in attendance to the ball held in your honor in a weekâs time?â He asked, his voice laced with the same challenge and coldness that are to be expected in a monarchâs words.
âYou can count with our presence, Your Highness. We are honored to be the subject of said celebrations.â Fenrys said, already waltzing out of the room, arms linked with the ginger assassin, as they happily chatted away.
Connall followed closely behind, exchanging whispers with Sam Cortland and another brunette who rested his hand upon the hilt of his sword, as if Cortland alone was not deadly enough.
Vaughan smiled a wide smile as he walked with a beautiful lady whom Lorcan knew as Kaltain Rompier, daughter of a successful merchant.
Gavriel was escorted by Nox and the elder prince, who said something that caused the lion to smile.
Whitethorn was accompanied by Duke Perrington. Ever since Lorcan arrived, he sensed something wrong with that man, but he couldnât quite put his finger on it. All he knew was that he had given both Aedion and him a matching pair of rings, ones that matched with those worn by the king and the duke himself. Aedion had acquired an identical pair of rings for both of them, since they did not trust the duke. He twirled the ring in his finger, watching as the fae warriors left. The beautiful one, Elide, remained, watching him with a feral grin plastered on her face.
âI want the pretty boy.â She declared, turning on her heel and leaving the throne room, as if she already knew that everybodyâs eyes were on her. Hell, she most probably did knew.
Lorcan remained behind, too shocked to do anything else but stare, his jaw dropped. He did his best to regain himself, and scurried out of the room to join the gorgeous female whom he was determined to get into bed with. He had never been with one so wild before.
He had barely turned a corner when he was shoved against the wall, a knife pressed to his throat.
âMake a noise and youâre dead. Who are you?â
âCareful. Thatâs a threat to someone who holds a fair amount of power here.â
Her answer was a growl, as she drove the knife deeper into his throat.
âLorcan Salvaterre, sweetheart. Lord of Perranth.â
âYour ring. Your king and the duke were also wearing it. They are not human, and by the looks of it, neither are you.â
âOh, I assure you, I am human. This ring? I donât know. They gave it to me.â
âWhy?â She barked.
âI do not have to explain myself to you, love.â
âYou do if you value your life. This might prove a threat to my queen and I wonât have that, pretty boy.â She purred, her knife still resting in Lorcanâs throat.
âFair enough. I know thereâs something going on with the royal family and their relatives, but I am unable to know what, so Iâm no help to you, sweetheart. I do have some friends who could prove to be resourceful.â
Elide took back her knife, but her hold on Lorcan was still impossible to break.
âYou are going to help me and my companions find out what is it that is happening, or you will be buried along with your king, you turncoat.â
Lorcan clicked his tongue, escaping the warriorâs grip.
âTurncoat. Traitor. Bastard. Call me whatever you want, but that doesnât make hy hatred for the king dissapear, or proves my loyalty to him. I will help you, but no more threats.â
Elide turned on her heel once again, preparing to leave without another word.
âItâs a date, then.â
The faeâs following choice of words, mostly describing Lorcan, were far too obscene.
Authorâs note: Happy Holidays to @youmusthavedemonpox from your @yulemaas Secret Santa! Hope you like this little pic I put together for you! Sorry if itâs terrible, it is my first try at ToG fan fiction.Â
This is an alternate universe where the main difference is Lorcan and Elide switching positions. This is out of character for both of them in order to fit their new story and situations. This is how I think they would have been like. Other from that, since Marion was not there to buy Aelin time, something completely different happened to her, leading to Sam living, and becoming the royal assassin, along with Ansel and Nox because letâs be real, those three would be the deadliest in all of Erilea. Ansel is not Queen of the Wastes because of, reasons, and Nox was there all along. I couldnât figure out which one of them would win in a fight, and they would have probably become good friends, seconding to work together instead of killing one another. As for Aelinâs whereabouts, that shall remain a mystery, most likely never resolved, unless I make this into a series. Whoever is reading, what do you think? Would you read this?
Hey @aelinasardothien, I was your Secret Santa for @yulemaas! I figured a really happy Rowan with a happy and fluffy Fleetfoot would be suiting (something I hope we can read in the last book aha)!Â
Hope your 2017 will be filled with as much happiness as on this drawing!
