#yule asks

Rowena would be very good with gifts! Unfortunately she has very little money to buy anything for those close to her. But until she moves to Edoras, whilst she lives in Glamsbjerg (which is a very boring place in all accounts) she has quite a lot of time to knit and sew and cook things herself. She thinks of it long in advance and is very diligent in her preparations. She sends knits and toys to her older sister Wylfrun and her nephews in Edoras. For her mother and her younger sister (whom you will meet soon, in chapter 4!), she has hidden preserves and candied fruit from the harvest, to gift to them when stocks would start to dwindle and they think that they won't see another cherry or raspberry for another eight months! She had knit a wonderful blanket for her brother Folcred, as he spends so much time riding out and sleeping rough in the cold, but unfortunately he dies so soon after Yule that he will not have had much time to enjoy it. Théodred knew of the gift and made sure to bury him in it, a little comfort of home as he was laid to rest so far from his loved ones.

There was a little Yule-time mischief and playfulness at hand. Not that Almáriel was aware of it at first, due to being distracted by a Rangers vs Soldiers snowball fight. Her attention however was soon yanked away by footsteps and the sudden cold feeling of snow being put in her jacket.

A delayed arrival meant that Hal had gotten there just moments before the blizzard started to really pick up outside. She had quickly changed into dry clothing and joined Éomer in front of the fire, relieved to stay inside for a while.

Thanks for asking! I will pick Waerblith for the first one because Rowena and Bréda have already had some asks. (And she's currently kinda my fave, check out the recent Théodred story where she stars!)

So, does Waerblith write letters for Christmas? Well, no... She doesn't know how to read and write, a very unnecessary skill to have, and one she has not needed in all her years. Why write, when you have such an excellent memory as yours, and in any case all of your children and grandchildren live a mere stroll away? No need for letters, you'll ruin your eyes! Instead, she will bake some of her famous apple cake (recipe here!) and come knock at your door to gift it, ask for news, and offer plenty of advice. Hopefully you weren't too busy that day, because she has lots of excellent opinions to offer, informed by her many years of experience and wisdom, and you wouldn't want to miss any of that, would you?
