Character // monty grounder verse
monty grew up as a yujleda farmer to two loving parents and a friend who was closer to a brother, jasper. he wasn’t warrior by any stretch, not that he couldn’t fight at all; he could but monty never believed in all this killing. he had killed before though, it was almost unheard of for a grounder to have no blood on their hands.
as an adult monty lived a simple lifestyle. he was a farmer but lived in the village he’d grown up in rather than a farm of his own. he was also many grounders go to man for extracurricular medicine use if you know what I mean.

Character // raven grounder verse
raven was born to yujleda, she never met her father and her mother was neglectful often leaving raven to fend for herself for days at a time while she was off doing whatever. her mother was later killed in a raid courtesy of delfiyon.
yujleda was big on metal work, they’d make their own tools, utensils, furniture, they spend a lot of time rebuilding old boats and other structures. raven was one of their best, especially when it came to rebuilding things. she was often sent to polis for jobs, not important enough to speak to the commander of course but she was well known.
Clan Building // funerals
death in any clan is held with grace and respect. yujleda people believe it’s best not to burn or bury the bodies but to return them to the swamps, you’d never see yujleda people willingly leaving their dead on the battle field or anywhere else.
the bodies are often wrapped in roots and plants before they are brought to a certain swamp on the outskirts of yujleda territory. it’s pretty disturbing to see this place but yujleda people are desensitised to it. where outsiders see bodies they see beauty.
when a yujleda commander dies they are wrapped in roots and plants in the throne room where the natblida’s will prey on them. after this they are sent back to yujleda and returned to the swamp and to their people, green smoke signals spread the word.
Clan Building // fire shows
yujleda people are known for their fire shows, there’s not a gathering that goes on in yujleda that doesn’t involve a fire performance. these shows are performed only by yujleda born people who’ve trained for such shows. the performances themselves include pole twirling, pole spinning, fire breathing, fire eating and the art of dancing with the flames. the fire is of course yujleda’s signature green flame and loud drums are used to set the tone.
never has a performance taken place in another clan’s territory but shows have been done in polis. usually only a few shows take place a year but with the reign of a yujleda commander the art is considered much more popular. that said while the other clans are more than welcome to enjoy the art they are not allowed to participate in the show.
the shows performed after a war is won are arguably the loudest and most chaotic. there’s no dancing involved but sacrifices often take place. prisoners of war are burned during the show as a sign that war is truly over and the prisoners serve no purpose anymore. the drums are so loud that you could hear the prisoners screaming no louder than you could hear the person next to you.
