So, I'm not logged in yt, yeah? It's one of those once-in-a-blue-moon things when the system kicks me out and I'm insulted by the presumption that too much time has passed and my session is expired. Google, time isn't real to me. (Mostly).
But I still use it because I need to look something up and I can't be assed to log in.
Big mistake.
Huge.
Not even because I'm out of my echo chamber. No. The internet is crazy, sure. But most of all, the internet is full of people. Just people living their lives, being into the things they are.
The things that I used to be. The things that I never was into. The things that I never understood.
There are some phases of my life I don't want to repeat. And they're there. Staring at me from their little thumbnails.
I am again into a research binge about a random subject, that I'm not even sure I have an interest in. Do I really want to spend hours looking into it? I don't know. I'm doing it, though. Curated content rarely betrays me like that. I've got shit to do!
The world is...so big. With so much stuff in it. It's awe-inspiring, as a rule, and scary when I just stumbled outside in my PJs. Figuratively.
After I realized all that, I logged in so fast. I didn't even make a spelling mistake. There was not even an errant letter. I totally did the equivalent of diving into my bed so the monsters under my bed won't get me.
The algorithm isn't good and it isn't evil, for me. I can see how it can be both. Not in my case. But it does help shape a corner of the internet that's not necessarily an echo chamber, but it's definitely comprised of what interests me. Maybe with a throwaway thing that doesn't cause a blip on my radar. I guess I never stopped and took the time to realize that.
Youtube keeps recommending right leaning stuff to me despite me repeatedly clearing the search and watch history
