I think I have collected a little under 250 (25 JB records, top 20 for most of them). A lot of the tracks were repeats, so I’m definitely going to see a lot of overlap. Here are some data visualizations that I plan on going with:

As in, the more I kept reading the codes, the more dumbfounded I felt.

I was hoping it wouldn't be a problem to code, but it goes into things that I have never dealt with—I actually got a headache from trying to understand it.

There's too big of a catalogue that has sampled music by James Brown—Funky Drummer alone has been sampled in +750 records. It'd be interesting to be able to get all of the songs that sample JB and visualize that data. I guess having too much information is better than having not enough information. 

I thought about reducing it to the songs that actually made the charts, but that's not fair to a lot of the underground hip hop artists that I want to showcase. With that being said, I thought about organizing the music into artists instead of the songs itself, but it would not be as interactive...

I thought about organizing it into Grammy winners. The Grammys website does have a simple search database so I could just type in the artists' name. I can organize it into nominees and winners. This would be ideal in that it suggests that JB's music has helped mobilize music, and has been successful in its legacy thus far. For artists that have more than one song, that sampled JB, I'd just pick one to play... but Mos Def isn't a Grammy winner!!! boo.
