Prom was quickly approaching and that was all the senior class could talk about. Who so and so were going with, what dress they were wearing, who’s doing whose make up, where they were meeting up. You on the other hand, were cramming for your economics test. You told yourself you were going to prom because hey, it’s senior year, but as the day is coming nearer, you decided you wouldn’t go because you didn’t have a date.
“[Y/N], can you pleeease stop worrying about school and talk with me about prom?” your friend Emma begged. Emma has been your friend since freshman year, and though she made you question your guys’ friendship plenty of times, you in the end, still cave in and forgive her for her mistakes.
“You know I’m not going,” you replied while trying to quickly skim your notes.
“Yah yah I know, it’s because you don’t have a date, but you can go with me and my group! Come on, it’s senior year for crying out loud, you deserve to have fun after all of your hard work.” She was right, so what if you didn’t have a date? You didn’t need a guy to have fun!
“Fine!” you cave in once again. “Fine, I’ll go to prom,” you smiled causing Emma to return a wide smile only after giving you a hard hug.

“Psss.” You turned your head around to see Luhan speaking quietly to Emma. You were curious of course; Luhan was the popular guy in school. But he was sweet and kind to everyone. You fell hard for him after he picked up your textbook when you bumped into someone in the halls. His eyes and boyish smile pulled you in immediately.
After class you walked quickly to Emma to see what the two were talking about.
“I don’t know,” Emma spoke in a hurry as she was gathering her books, “he told me to meet him after class to talk about prom. I think he’s going to ask me to be his date!” You definitely felt your heart drop, but you were still happy for her, you knew Luhan was a great guy, and she would be lucky to have him as her date.
“Well you don’t want him waiting, go get him tiger.” You gave her an encouraging smile and she hastily waved good bye to go meet Luhan. You let out a long sigh as you walked to lunch alone, if only you can get a date to prom. If only Luhan was yours.

“Hey!” Emma called out as she approached Luhan with a wide smile.
“Oh thank god, I thought you ditched me or something,” he let out a small chuckle, “I just wanted to ask if [Y/N] was going to prom tomorrow?”
Emma’s smile faltered, “Uh yeah she’s going, why?” Emma knew where this was heading and she didn’t want to hear the words come out of his mouth.
“I was wondering if you could maybe help me set up a promposal for [Y/N]? Since you guys are best friends after all, I think it would be great if you can help?”
“Oh… Yeah o-of course I can,” Emma let out a small, awkward laugh.
“Thank you so much! I’ll be setting up the promposal after school when [Y/N] is heading to her car. Meet me after seventh period so we can set it up before [Y/N] comes. Thank you so much again and sorry for this being so last minute, I couldn’t think of how to ask [Y/N] to prom.”
“No it’s fine! I think it’s cute that you’re asking her to prom,” Emma gave a small smile. Luhan quickly thanked her again before running to lunch excitedly.
Emma’s heart was pounding, how could a guy like Luhan like a girl like you? You were definitely not his type; you’re plain and can be labeled as a nerd while Luhan was the definition of perfection. She thought she was more fitting to date him.

You waited impatiently for Emma at your lunch table; you were dying to hear what happened. You spotted Emma walking slowly to your table.
“So what happened!” you let out excitingly. Even though you liked Luhan, you couldn’t be selfish, if he asked her to prom, then being the great friend you are, you will be happy for her.
“He told me that he wanted to ask you to prom!” Your eyes widened, you couldn’t believe what Emma was saying. Luhan wants to go to prom with you?
“No way, I thought he was going to ask you?” You felt bad for your friend since you can see the disappointment behind the façade she was putting up.
“Nah, I’m pretty sure he’s in love with you or something,” she joked. You were smiling like crazy, maybe prom night will be magical like you had imagined. While you were daydreaming about Luhan, Emma pulled out her phone to text said boy

From: Emma
Hey Luhan, I’m sorry to say, [Y/N] already has a date to prom :( ]

Luhan quickly looked up from his phone towards your direction. He saw Emma giving him a “sorry” look and he saw you looking overly happy. He was devastated. He was such an idiot for waiting too long to ask you. He should’ve asked you earlier before someone else asked, but how could he? He barely talked to you because he was too shy to. He gained the confidence to ask you to prom only just a few days ago. Would you have accepted his offer anyways if he were to ask you before anyone else?
You were the only person Luhan had trouble talking to, but he was sure you liked him. He had seen the shy smiles you give him in the halls and the slight blush on your cheeks whenever he waves back. Maybe he just misinterpreted the situation? Luhan poked at his food, before his phone buzzed once again.

Hey don’t look too sad, I can always be your date if you don’t have anyone else in mind :P]
Luhan stared at his phone for a while; did he really want to go with Emma? She is your best friend after all and so she’ll definitely be in your prom group… If she was in your prom group, he will inevitably bump into you at prom, definitely a great way to see you anyways. Luhan quickly texted Emma back.
