Gabriel sighed loudly, hoping that if he annoyed his father enough, he wouldn't have to go to this camp. Though they had already driven for four hours and hadn't turned around once.
"Do I have to go to this place? I hate summer camp. It's too hot and no one ever liked me. And Luci won't be there this year," he complained.
His father said nothing, as usual, and Gabriel fixed his eyes outside with a pout as the camp came into view. He'd come here last year, but didn't really like it except for being away from his father and hanging out with his brother. He wasn't looking forward to this year, but he'd at least have something to do until second grade started up in the fall.
As they arrived and got his bags out of the trunk, Gabriel lugged them over to the lawn groaning at the overly peppy camp counselors. He left his bags in the pile and walked over to a young boy on the picnic table. "Hi," he held out his hand, "I'm Gabriel." He might as well try and make one friend, if nothing else. He wasn't going to give his hopes up, though.
