As a mix comes to life it kind of makes itself. There’s a plan and then as the saying goes, God laughs. The purpose of the mix is to give a flavor of some of the most important recent Hip Hop that I’ve discovered in 2022… It is not the only and not the best in the universe of Hip Hop that’s come out. The purpose is to share material that may be useful to those doing Hip Hop related work in school, after school, in therapy, and in a range of other settings. The purpose is also to help us all to continue exploring the difficult issues and do some reflecting on how we can do and be better as individuals and make conditions better for the young people in our lives. How do we learn, grow, and improve our mental health? How do we become more attentive to the needs of our communities? Volume 1 starts and ends on being firm and clear about who and what you are in the world… thinking about now and the long-term. But throughout emerged a strong focus on two areas, thinking about gun violence and how we cope with stress and trauma, current and intergenerational. This is how the cover came about… capturing today’s sobering trends for youth and young adult deaths linked to guns and drugs. And this cover chart doesn’t cover the staggering disparity for the Black community. https://www.mixcloud.com/raphael-travis/your-self-22-hdwk-100-vol-1/ (link also in bio via link.tree) #healingpowerofhiphop #yourselfmixtape #HDWK https://www.instagram.com/p/Cm0YJMSI1Vk/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
