Welllll… I thought, wouldn't it be funny if somehow, Hide convinces Kaneki to confess, and Yoshikawa is a ghoul? And somehow her overhearing Kaneki responding to Hide that trying to eat someone you have a crush on sounds like a fucked-up thing to do, is what convinces Yoshikawa to say yes when Kaneki confesses. Because that's a response to "playing with your food" that shows integrity, by ghoul standards. (And things go better for both of them than Kaneki's canon date with Rize did.)

That's Yoshikawa's initial reason to say yes. For what pushes Kaneki to confess... Ooohh. Yoshikawa overhears and can't help but turning and looking at Kaneki and Hide, revealing that she knows about Kaneki's crush and it's time for him to 'fess up and say it. Face the music, probably with Hide's encouragement, "Kaneki, man, the worst thing that can happen is she doesn't like you back, and things are awkward for a little while".

Haha, that would be Kaneki's luck for Yoshikawa to be a ghoul, huh?

Anyway, I love this! It's really cute!

There's also the implication that this thematically ends up the opposite as the Rize situation for Hide as well. In canon, he catches onto her vibes and tries to ward Kaneki off her.

So maybe... while Kaneki is flustering that Yoshikawa overheard them and what he should do, Hide's mind is racing. That shouldn't have happened.

He's a tease, yeah, but he's not an asshole. He made sure to tease Kaneki out of hearing distance of his crush. And yet... Yoshikawa heard them anyway? He can clock something is amiss. Something... inhuman? Yet from across the room, he can see her eyes, or the way she holds herself. It's interest—something genuine and positive. So if she is a ghoul... then Kaneki seems to not be on her menu.
