I had been looking for this song for at least a year, or even maybe two. I didn’t remember it was from the Sound of Music. I haven’t seen that film that much.
I don’t know if you have this problem where you live, but more and more in France people felt like you should put up with their music (or whatever comes out of their smartphone), either you like it or not.
Don’t ask me why, but it always makes me think of the episode of The Nanny, where Brighton has a boombox in which he listens to rap music. In one scene, he takes his boombox, turns it on but instead of a rap song, this one plays out.
And every single time I hear someone else’s smartphone, because they are too lazy or too stupid to use headphones, I want to put this song on, loud and clear.
I don’t think I’ll put it on anyway, because someone who is too inconsiderate not to put on headphones won’t probably find my humour to their taste, and I am not one for confronting stupid people. it’s a waste of my breath, my energy and my time. But knowing that I have the possibility will, at least, give me some comfort.
So thank you Rodgers and Hammerstein, and thank you Julie Andrews.
