if you were to open a store/restaurant/bar what would you call it and why?
i’d call it Top Shot, we’d have those dart games, and if someone hit the bullseye an established number of times in a row they’d get a shot of whatever drink they want

(( I'M DOING THE THING )) "Hey, Master, I'm gonna go-- Master?" Allen was announcing his leave, stepping into the living room as he did so, but stopped abruptly when he saw Cross on the couch, looking way less than okay. He tentatively inched closer to the sofa, inquiring quietly, "Hey, are you... all right?"
//Yay!
[Cross. Felt. Awful. He hadn’t gotten so much as a sniffle in so long he’d forgotten what a bitch illness could be. Then again, he supposed it was only a matter of time— sex, booze and cigarettes could only manage one’s stress levels to a certain degree, and most of that wasn’t exactly healthy either. But then Allen was there (had he dozed off?) and his voice was obscenely loud and his brain felt like it was getting shanked a dozen times over. It took a few tries to speak (or rasp), his jaw aching and his throat raw, tongue heavy in a dry mouth.]
I'll put it under a read more tag so those of you on PC don't have to see any spoilers.
I did see that really long post going around about it, and I agree, but I don't think it was an insult to the show despite how badly they fucked up.
With Robin and Barney splitting up, as heartbreaking as that was, I'm pretty sure the writers were trying to be realistic. They've tried before and failed, so it's not all that surprising that their marriage didn't work out very well either. I'm not saying they should have split up, god no I shipped them to the heavens and above, but I'm not saying that was the worst they could have done. Of course I'm angry and upset about it, but I'm just not so surprised that it happened. They were beautiful together and there was so much character development surrounding the two of them, but sometimes it just doesn't work out.
I feel like Barney going back to his womanizing ways, despite honestly being a big fuck you from the writers, was his way of dealing with the fact that he divorced the woman he loved above all else. It wasn't the first time it had happened. He had something serious with Nora, and after both times he broke up with her he was back to his usual self. Same with Quinn, except by that point he was starting to realize he was in love with Robin. Womanizing was his way of dealing with emotional trauma because that was all he had ever known. He dealt with his problems by drinking and sleeping around, and he just never learned differently. Sure, he changed, but obviously he didn't change enough.
Lily and Marshall unfortunately just didn't have enough screen time. They felt like supporting characters in this episode because they were the only ones that seemed to get a decent ending. Lily went to Rome, they had a third kid, Marshall got his dream of becoming a Supreme Judge, and they lived happily ever after. But was that it? We have no idea. We don't know what Lily was doing after her year in Rome. Was she still working for the Captain? We don't know. Where did they move to after leaving the apartment? We don't know. I love those two so much but I'm just so disappointed that they were put on the back burner in this episode to make way for Ted's, Barney's, and Robin's love problems. The last big thing we saw with them was their biggest fight, and that was a few episodes ago. Since then they've been less important even though they're supposed to be the gang's best friends.
I really don't blame Robin for putting her career above her love life. She's been doing that since the beginning. That's why her and Ted broke up in the first place, it's why her and Barney divorced. The one time she put love first she had her heart broken, so after that who wouldn't start putting their job first? But then she just distanced herself from the rest of them without actually needing to. I don't think she ever had that "are we okay?" talk with Barney even though that was the one talk they needed to have more than anything in the world. Everytime she and one of the gang had some fight and were awkward for a while, they always had the "are we okay?" talk. But this time they didn't, and it may have been the thing that helped restore the character development that Barney lost after their divorce. I feel like she was the reason the gang was falling apart, not because of everyone's lives. She felt awkward around Barney and wouldn't do anything to fix it, so she distanced herself from all of them as a result, and that was the thing that broke them all apart.
I loved Tracy with all my heart. She was for sure "the one" for Ted, and no one will ever tell me otherwise. And I'm okay with them killing her off. If you recall, her episode was titled "How your Mother met Me", not "How I Met Your Father", so Ted had to have been the one telling it. There were so many little clues that she was dead in the future, and it explains why she didn't jump in at some point and say "Are you still telling this story?" I'm not angry that they killed her off. I'm really not. I'm not happy about it, but I have nothing against that decision. What I do have against the mother thing is that, even though six years passed, Ted seemed to have no feelings for her any longer.
Ted. Oh Ted. I love you but I am so angry at you. I know he loved Robin, and I know he never stopped loving her. But at the same time, he fell in love with Tracy. He married her. He had children with her. Not necessarily in that order. She was the girl with the yellow umbrella who sang a beautiful rendition of "La Vie en Rose" on the balcony next to his at the wedding he never thought he would attend. He was the one the gang took one look at and said "Haaaaaaaaave you met Ted?" But he pushed all of that aside for Robin. Again. It had always been Robin. It's why he broke up with Victoria, both times, why he was moving to fucking Chicago. He broke that to be with Tracey, but then a few years after she dies he decides to go right back to Robin. How many times has he told her he loves her? And how many times has she turned him down? Ted wanted kids and to settle down, but she didn't. That was the whole point of their break up. Sure, he has kids now, but how many times does he need to have his heart broken before he can realize that it just wasn't meant to be? Don't get me wrong, the blue French horn thing brings me to tears every single time. I don't ship them romantically at all but my favourite line in the show was, "I would have stolen an entire orchestra for you." But that was said in what, season 2? Ted should have gotten over her years and years before, and instead he goes right back to her after Tracey is gone. Did that mean nothing to him? I know people move on from their significant other's deaths but he should have learned by now that Robin was not the person he should be going to every time he's lonely. You can't just tell someone you love them because you haven't been in a relationship for a while and feel lonely, but that's exactly what he did time and time again. After the whole deal with Kevin, he should have realized that that needed to end right there and then, but it carried on years and years into the future. It was the most adorable thing that he brought her the blue French horn but she is just not the one for him and the show went over that so many times that my ears bled.
So to summarize, I don't think the episode was an insult to the show. I wish I could unsee it, sure, but it could have been a lot worse. I know they pushed aside so much plot and character development just to ultimately put Ted with the one person the show has said time and time again that he shouldn't be with, but looking back on the show I feel like that was their end goal anyway. They just went about it in the worst way possible. Every show has their bad episodes, HIMYM was just unlucky enough for their bad one to be their last. They're leaving on a terrible note but we have had nine wonderful years watching it. Ultimately, if we pretended the last episode didn't happen, everything would have been resolved anyway. All that episode did was break our hearts and our ships in a terrible way, but even the way it was filmed and put together didn't quite feel like the show we know and love. I knew I was watching it but it just didn't feel right, and I don't think we should be calling it "an insult" to the show as a whole. It was bad, yes. Everything was tossed aside to get Ted and Robin together, yes. Marshall won the bet, yes. But we have to remember all the little clues that also led up to this, and remember that killing the mother off was not the worst thing they could have done, because it was so terribly clear that he loved her more than anything while she was alive.
