The kid cock his ear to one side, rolling his eyes to the ceiling as if searching for a lost balloon. "Well, one is across the country because he loves his work more than us, and the other is too high right now to give a shit about me. What about yours?"

Thor ignored the question. Instead he lowered his voice. "And what about the other guy?"

The kid smiled, too pure to be innocent. "What other guy?"

"The other one," Thor nearly growled. Damn, this kid had figured out how to rile him up in less than two minutes.

"He.... went back to the missus." The kid shrugged without concern. "I helped him through a mid life crisis, that's all."

They stood there in the middle of the grocery aisle, while single mothers and employees flowed around them, no one stopping to wonder why a grown man who looked like a body builder was contemplating how best to bend this soft willow twig of a teenager to his will.

Finally Thor replaced the sucker to their mouth, and the brilliant red tongue curled around it, making it disappear once more.
