Moonsong drabbles
“People like that are never truly happy,” Yanlyn said, waving a hand. “They’re never happy?” Creve asked sharply. Something turned molten inside him. “Right, people who grab at men, women, whatever they can get their hands on--they are never really fulfilled, never find real love. Not like your father and I,” his mom explained. “They’re full of greed.” Creve’s fists clenched. “When you married Dad, were you no longer attracted to other men?” “What?” she said, finally looking at him. She seemed taken aback at his tone. “I would never cheat on your father, you know that I--” “That’s not what I asked. I’m saying you didn’t lose any part of yourself when you married him, you just made a commitment.” “Right...” “Why would it be any different for those people who love multiple genders? Why does that mean they can’t love and commit to a relationship?” Creve was nearly shouting now, though his mother’s tone had stayed casual and dismissive. He came to a realization about himself and the world, like a thunderbolt. He lifted his chin sharply. “You don’t think I would ever be happy?” he whispered. “Oh, Creve, I didn’t mean...” his mom began, and faltered. “I didn’t think--” “No, Mom, you didn’t. Maybe you should give this some thought. And I will too.”
