The yangqin is a relatively young musical instrument in comparison to the ancient history of China, but it is certainly no misfit.
In comparison to China's extensive historical culture, the yangqin can be regarded as a relatively young musical instrument. It only appeared in China at the end of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644).
The origins of the Chinese dulcimer can actually be traced to outside of China – the direct translation of “yangqin” to “foreign zither” further establishes that fact.
