I just moved to Virginia Beach and I'm looking for some cool bars and places to check out. Any suggestions?
Definitely. Are you in VA Beach proper or in the area? I’m a fan of the Ghent and downtown Norfolk areas mostly. A few notables include the Public House on Colley Ave - great food and a huge selection of craft/local beer. Chow, also on Colley Ave but down towards ODU, which also has a great beer selection and amazing southern comfort food.
Mo & O’Malley’s is a favorite downtown, but it’s more of a dive Irish bar. Not sure I’d call it “cool”, but I love it.
For Virginia Beach my favorite is probably HK on the Bay, in the Chick’s Beach area. They have a great local feel and live music fairly regularly. At the oceanfront I would’ve always recommended the Jewish Mother, but unfortunately it has closed. Most of my experience at the ocean front is at Catch 31, which is okay, but not my favorite. The “cool” place at the ocean front is Sky Bar, but I’m not down with paying $200 a year to access a bar.
At Town Center my favorite spot is easily Yard House - they have over a hundred beer taps and really good food (can you tell I’m a beer drinker?). I don’t go to Town Center too often, though, so there may be more places there that are cool.
Another favorite spot is across the water in Portsmouth - Gosport Tavern. Owned by the same folks as the Public House and has a very similar vibe.
