I don’t know much about Indian culture, even though I’m not from around here ( I’m from Peru in case I never said it before ) that does not makes me a expert in any culture, which is why I am always in the look out to learn as much as I can from the different and diverse ethnicity here in the U.S.
To my own delight I learn that this special ceremony is held when a girl wears a Sari for the first time a sign that she has become a young woman both spiritually and physically. All the family gets together for this event. Some of family members even came from out of town just for this.
Seeing all the family and friends getting all together, reminded me of the strong family ties on my own culture. Even as a youngster, I was taught to both respect and appreciate family. Without it no man or woman can ever learn to walk on this world, its a gift from heaven.
This was a very color theme ceremony, to me they represented joy in many a sense, celebration- most specially for the ladies- as this was one more young woman going on her way to adulthood, this whole ceremony was a way to show the world that they were here as a family and a community ready to commit on more person to the adventures of adulthood. This is of course from my own point of view.. then again i don’t believe i’m far from the truth here.
So I cannot but give thanks to my the Lord for another great experience as a photographer and a fellow human being. What a great treasure is to being a witness to great events like this. My thanks to Amar and his family for allowing to photograph this amazing ceremony as well.
And let the adventures continue!
