[I'm bad at the name thing too. But perhaps a good modern name for Eomer is Marshal. I mean, he is a marshal of the Mark and meaning of the name Marshal: From a surname which originally denoted a person who was a marshal. The word marshal originally derives from Germanic marah "horse" and scalc "servant".]
