LIFE WAS FINALLY STARTING TO SETTLE INTO PLACE. luke was adjusting to moving across the country, and actually making a few friends. something he never really got back in california, carol always switching schools when he came home trying to hide how puffy his eyes were from crying at recess.

maybe her life wasn’t settling as well, but she’d work a million minimum wage jobs and deal with her ex hanging around if it meant his life was going better. part of the reason it seemed to be going so well was because of scott hanging around. he hadn’t really had a father figure since gil- kyle was just the uncle who was always ... around.

it was part of the reason she didn’t hesitate to call him for help. for once in her life she was admitting she was out of her depth by agreeing to host a sleepover for a handful of six year olds. kyle could only keep them entertained with games for so long. now they were chasing him around while she and scott tried to make food for them all.

This high school was... something. 

It was no private boarding school for girls, at least. But, no, that part of her life was over, she supposed. With the divorce happening and her move back, she doubt she’d get the luxury of privacy and comfort that the Massachusetts Academy gave her. 

A boy shorter than her bumped into her, probably a freshman. He mumbled a quick ‘sorry,’ and Emma knew she was in hell. 

She brushed off her arm as if to wipe him off of her, and went to her locker. Opening it, shoving her books in, then sighing. This was going to be her life until she got accepted into the Ivy League of her choice and then never had to look back at anything. She closed her locker and was going to walk, but was startled at the sight next to her. 

Was that... no, it couldn’t be. 

    But it was. 

Speaking of not looking back, she supposed. Emma ran a hand through her hair. She might as well, right? Better her find him than him find out she was back and come crawling to her like some dog left out in the rain. As amusing as that might be. 

MEN. no matter how much time would pass, one thing would stay consistent. they would land here on a pure accident and use their ego to justify how they would act as if they owned the place. as if they could speak to her like that. it was sickening.

the man in front of her had shown himself to be no exception. shipwrecked from his own shortcomings in the waters, having the audacity to tell her what she can and cannot do.

“Cyclops. Ah, Misster Summers.” Teddy greeted him. He wasn’t over the entire ‘kidnap my boyfriend with psychic powers and take them to San Francisco’ thing but... he could understand it. Now, at least. 

    He wasn’t happy about it.
