Day 23: The Terracotta Warriors (And Many Other Things!)
After getting the tickets for the bus and the Terracotta warriors (which was not the easiest thing to do), we hoped on the bus and finally arrived there (it’s 60km away from Xian).
So, the Terracotta Warriors are divided into three pits: we obviously started from the last!
Pit 3 is still in ‘excavation mode’, but it was interesting to see how they were digging up the place. But Pit 1, finally, had the warriors! It’s not surprising that they are considered one of the eight wonders of Earth! The amount of details on their faces were incredible, and some of them still had some red paint on their clothes! Truly an amazing sight, and I’m really glad we went there!
Then, once we returned in Xian, we decided to go to see the Big Wild Goose Pagoda: saying it was difficult to find is saying the least!
We got onto the right metro stop, but whenever we were asking where it was (pointing it on a map) everyone seemed to not knowing what we were talking about! Thankfully, though, a student helped us take the right bus, and when we arrived there, we were all so disappointed!
The pagoda was under renovation and we couldn’t even go near it!
What arrived later, oh boy: we got completely lost! We took the wrong bus and we increased our journey by loads! Luckily, though, a local took pity on us and directed us to the right bus!
We took the metro to the city walls: what a sight! They are much different than the Great Wall. Xian’s Wall is much wider, such that you can cycle on it! And that’s what we did. I never do any kind of sport every year, but I can proudly say that I cycled all 14 km of it!
We then returned around the Drum Tower area, got some more souvenirs, and went to bed, as tomorrow we have to get up at 6!
