My dad is a second generation Armenian. I'm genetically Armenian even if not culturally. That's usually what it's about tbh and some people want to borrow on their genetics and claim culturally they're something else too (Italian)
Yeah but culture and genetics are two VERY different things, and the former is way more important for me tbh (contrary to some disgusting racists in all Europe for example, that care more about where you come from than what you do). To my eyes, even if you are âgenetically somethingâ it doesnât mean you belong to a certain place. Take my friend Giuseppe, heâs genetically Congolese, but it just never passed through my mind to not consider him italian because of that. He IS italian in everything he does, even if genetically heâs something else :) I have no problem in the claim on genetics anyway - just say you have italian heritage and the message will be there. But claiming italian culture is a bit too much, because again, itâs not about simple things like eating spaghetti or singing italian folklore songs. Thatâs why some Italians may see it as a disrespect. I guess in general, we in Europe have a completely different system when it comes to nationality, thatâs it. That said, people can still do whatever the hell they want, but Iâll just continue laughing at people telling me theyâre italian when the most italian thing theyâve done in their life is eating a Cannolo ÂŻ\_(ă)_/ÂŻ
