I’ve done put up 4 shows since February 23rd, all of which extremely overlapped. 3 of them all assistant lighting designer as part of my internship credits. The other both scenic and lighting designer, while building, painting, and hanging the show. I’ve been trying to pick up stagehand gigs to pay the bills, I spent aweek at a KCACTF region conference, a week in LA, and I’m about to spend a week traveling back and forth from Denver to the mountains for a show on my intern credits. In short it’s been busy as hell but drama on campus has shortened my mental fuse. I was pushed to my breaking point several times over the last few months and because of that it’s taken a toll on my health and I’ve been trying to recover. I went from taking a large part in the production side of our work study program to now converting VHS tapes and organizing paperwork. Honestly my intern credits have kept me sane, I’m lucky to be doing them under an amazing guy who wants nothing but for me to succeed in this industry. I’ve been to the point of dropping out and not finishing school, I’ve complemented taking a year off. Ive lost people who I’ve thought were my friends and felt alone and closed off. But ive worked through a lot of my troubles and gotten in a better place. I’ve accepted 1 amazing friend is better than many. School is something that I need more than i realize as it’s helped me more than anything. And despite my troubles i have 2 schools from KCACTF who want me to transfer badly. I got tremendous feedback on my lighting design entry at festival. I won merit awards for both my scenic and lighting designs this semester. I am getting my AA in May and trying to finalize my plans for August. It’s been a ride this year and it’s only April, I’m excited to see where this year will go.
