What is hybrid rice? Hybrids of several kinds

Hybrid rice is a rice variety that is exclusively grown from purebred parents in F1 production. Farmers benefit from the cultivation of F1 hybrid rice because of its great economic efficiency and high yield. Farmers may also actively source seeds on the spot, bridging the gap between focused and large-scale production.

Currently, hybrid rice comes in three varieties:

F1 hybrid rice. Crossing a male sterile mother with a sexually restored father line yields progeny seeds. The creation of F1 hybrid rice types must follow a set of guidelines and fulfill certain quality requirements.

Three-line hybrid seed. Crossing the cytoplasmic male sterile A (CMS) line with the sexually recovered R line yielded the children. Line A maintains male sterility, whereas line B maintains female sterility.

Two-line hybrid seed. When a sterile male genetically vulnerable to environmental factors is crossed with a viable father line, hybrid rice is the result.
