The warmth of the tropical climate greatly contrasted the dry heat of the desert of which Seteth had once become accustomed. Thick like syrup, water vapor hung heavy in the air, straining his ability to breathe. Despite his own natural resistance to extreme climates, even Seteth was slightly uncomfortable from the heat, and a thin layer of sweat had gathered between his eyebrows as well as long his forehead. Stay hydrated. He reminded himself, pausing his stride to unscrew the cap to his water bottle and swallow a healthy drink of water. It amazed him that the water was still cold, despite having been at the boardwalk most of the afternoon. According to Flayn, it was some sort of patented material that kept it so, and Seteth once again found himself realizing just how quickly modern life was advancing ahead of him.

Though the time he spent alongside Flayn was bountiful, it was a rare event indeed to spend a vacation in such a luxurious resort. While Seteth took little enjoyment in a complete withdrawal from work, as his sense of duty left him feeling somewhat anxious to step away, he was grateful for the opportunity to witness Flayn’s joyous smile as they participated in the various activities.

Perhaps I am on the border of spoiling her... Seteth mused to himself, holding a bag of purchases he had made for Flayn. Yet, no matter how many times he had told himself those very words, he always found her deserving. She had endured far too much already in her lifetime, even if their lives spanned far longer than any human. Raising his head, he watched as Flayn approached the theme park rides and directed his attention towards the large Ferris Wheel in the distance. He was hardly fond of such attractions, but it would be quite boring to experience the ride alone. His expression softened and he smiled.

Another autumn had passed. Leaning against the railing of the skating rink, Seteth found himself musing if the passing of time had always been so swift. It seemed like yesterday the boughs of trees were adorned with splashes of vibrant color, pleasing the eyes and providing shade to the specters fortunate enough to rest a moment to witness their beauty. Humans hardly had any time at all on this earth to appreciate its beauty; Limited hours to dedicate to stillness. The holiday season blasted through with such great urgency that the man had little memories of the time, other than his daughter’s expression as she tore through her gifts vigorously on Christmas Day.

He looked to the device on his wrist--a gift from Flayn--which presented him both the time and date. It was already February, the Pegasus Moon at that, and he had learned that it was a time for merriment. To embrace friendships and romantic relationships through the purchase of gifts, food, and dedicating time for them during this month. 

Friendships. He lifted his expression, spotting Flayn as she continued to circle round and round the skating rink, wearing a wide smile. I would not call it forbidden, but...difficult in execution. He thought to himself, gazing to his hand, which had hardly aged despite the millennia that had passed.

Shaaaaa, came the sound of her welcome. It was a kind, gentle call, like a mother’s loving whisper as she affectionately kisses her child that has returned home. Closing his eyes, Seteth could feel the embrace of the Rhodo’s Coast breezes rushing through his hair, caressing his skin intimately. The smell of salt hung in the air in a thick layer. To most it was perturbing and uncomfortable, but to Seteth, it was pleasant, honeyed fragrance. It was home.

Their absence had been for far too long and in the silence between them, Seteth discerned that Flayn felt just the same. For the two of them, this place was special; more sacred than all of Garreg Mach Monastery. Though their family had its beginnings in Embarr, most of their time had been spent here, living a quiet life as a family. Countless memories shaped the sands of the coast. Everywhere he looked, he could see a mirage of Flayn as a child splashing about on the shore, or his wife attending to the fire that would prepare their supper. It brought a rare smile to his face and finally, he turned his gaze to Flayn.

“I must admit, I did not expect you to hold any fondness for fishing.” Seteth said, breaking the silence that had fallen between them. Seated at the edge of the wooden dock, Seteth held his fishing rod steady in his hands, waiting for the inevitable bite of a fish that he would drag to the surface. It had been years since hunger necessitated him to cast out a line. Rather than fishing for survival, he instead undertook the task as a method of self-comfort; to drag his mind away from the stress of the daily management of church affairs, among other concerns. Water, no, the ocean, was a familiar presence he associated with pleasant times. Perhaps that is why he continued to gravitate to the embrace of the waves, even after all these years.

It hadn’t been in his plans to fish alongside Linhardt--they had simply ended up in the same place at the same time. He often fished alone, but supposed that fishing with someone else wasn’t terribly troublesome.

Standing before the aged, carved stone that made up the statues of the saints, a small smile graced Seteth’s lips in response to the question. His answer was an easy one, practically reflexive now. Typically, he was not one to humor others by answering questions outside the realm of his occupation, but tickled by the question, he decided to provide an answer.

“I suppose just this once, I will humor you with an answer,” He replied, crossing his arms as the smile faded, “my life has consisted of countless encounters. The sheer volume of faces I have met has made it impossible for me to recall every name. However, if I were to narrow down my sources of inspiration to a single entity, my answer is simple. I have always held a certain fondness for Saint Cethleann.”

Turning towards the statue before him, Seteth’s staunch features softened.
