Summary: Totally Fucked from Spring Awakening, X-men kids;Ā
They hadnāt been training long. Not nearly enough to actually be good at fighting. But nobody is going to wait for them to learn. Raven is surprised that theyāre dodging as well as they are. Sheād been training them, but training is always different. Thereās no finishing time in the real fights; thereās no pause to discuss technique and force. She reationalizes that everyone theyāre fighting knows them. Which is why she brought in the Brotherhood. Charles didnāt know, not until the last second when Erik appears on the horizon his helmet glinting in the sun.
Hereās a moment you know
Alex hadnāt meant to cause so much trouble. He knows thatās a lie. He did mean to cause trouble; when it came to getting stuck in solitary. The angrier he got the less control he had over everything. He knew he would be better locked away. Kept from everyone and anything he could hurt. He didnāt want to think about what his parents were telling Scott. How childish he was to believe his brother would get out soon and they could go back to how they were. He knows they canāt ever do that, he finds out just how much itās changed when Scott sends him a letter. He recognises the stationary and he wants to laugh, but heās just relieved when the guards tell him he has a visitor, he knows who it is by the pressure in his head.
Darwin is meant to adapt; thatās the entire point of his powers. When the energy hits his lips, he knows it will take awhile to reform. It always has. He remembers when he was younger, and heād gotten trapped in the house fire. It had taken him almost a full hour to unlight, to drop whatever adaptation his body decided was best. Heās a little bitter he canāt control it. That when he lets his body adapt, he has no control, he thinks if he did have control he probably would have died much sooner. He closes his eyes as it happens, heās never been pure energy before.
Jean wants to crawl out of her own skin. Itās happening again, the nightmares, the bad dreams, the projection and pulling of everyone elseās thoughts. She wakes up frozen in a scream and then Charles is there, she can feel his presence in her head and she calms, his cool thoughts, the calming meditation heād helped her practice. She closes her eyes and opens them, theyāre fighting, itās not a surprise to her. What is however is Charles calling to her, telling her to let go. She can hear the other her, the power she controls flickering and lighting under her skin. Sheās not sure who Charles is telling to let go, herself, or the other her that sheās only just realized that burns under her skin.
Man, you just canāt call
Peter isnāt even sure what heās doing. Mystique had brought him to explain; to tell Erik he does have family. That Peter is his son. Like always he freezes. Heās too late, itās not that he doesnāt want to tell him but he knows it would just weigh on his conscious; another family member he couldnāt save; not that Peter is intent on dying but he knows this battle will cost too much, he knows heās one of the older ones, he knows he has to pay the price so everyone else doesnāt. Then his leg is trapped, and he canāt move and he screams because he can hear the bone breaking. He can see Erik hovering, his eyes wide with fear. He can see him mouthing something and his eyes widen when he recognises the word, heād only ever see his mom say my son.
But the thing that makes you really jump
Is that the weirdest shit is still to come
Anne Marie is exhausted. She canāt touch anyone, she canāt be close to anyone. She has to push everyone away. Itās whatās safer. Thereās nothing they can do for her, she sits on her bed shaking; sheās hurt so many people sheās loved. Itās better for her to leave, itās better for her to never come in contact with anyone else ever. She finds herself at a school, with friends, with training for her powers, with people who can and want to listen to her. Rogue, she grins at the suit theyāve made her; itās nothing special, not that she can tell but as itās explained to her there are parts of the suit that react to her needs; if she needs powers, or energy the suit will allow for that. They donāt say what sheās thinking, it will allow her to hurt others.
You can ask yourself, āHey what have I done?ā
Youāre just a fly, the little guys, they kill for fun
Laura fights, sheās defensive and untrusting of everyone. When they bring her back from the labs, when they assure her sheās safe she still fidgets. Laura doesnāt freeze. Sheās constantly in motion. Either sheathing or unsheathing her claws, running around the grounds, or trying to find the best escape routes just in case. They put her in almost constant training, she spends most of her time outside. They introduce her to gardening. Sheās gentle with the plants and bloodthirsty with the weeds. While sheās in training she gains more speed, more agility. Sheāll be terrifying when she learns more. She does freeze when they bring her to the lab in the mansion, to get fitted for a suit, to test her healing factor. She stops at the door growling faintly at it.
Man, youāre fucked if you just freeze up
Canāt do that thing, that keepinā still
Bobby hates his parents, but not really. He knows he cares about them, despite their refusal to accept his powers are just how he is. When he spends time at the school, when he trains and learns with others that are like him he knows heās safe. So when his parents show up claiming they want to take him home, that they found somewhere to fix him, he snarls, he shouts that the school is his home now, that he doesnāt want to see them. He can feel himself digging a hole but he doesnāt care, he canāt let himself go back. He freezes the entrance way to them, a river of ice cutting them off, his mother jumps back, fear in her eyes, Bobby turns away, he knows what will happen if he says anything else.
But youāre fucked if you speak your mind
And you know, uh huh, you will
Kurt doesnāt really know why heās in the circus. He doesnāt remember a time not being there. He likes it, despite learning his mother had left him. He doesnāt know what it says about his family if the circus is safer for him. He likes the tricks they ask him to do, how his gift is an advantage. He doesnāt like the ringmaster; the man who looks at his blue skin and decides itās not freakish enough; that simply being the blue devil isnāt good enough. The scars donāt really hurt not until theyāre on his face, or his arms when he does tricks. The ringmaster gets bored with his acrobatics, with his cheating with teleporting. Kurt wakes up to being shoved into a box, heās thrown into an arena heās told if he keeps up his avoidance theyāll both be dead.
Yeah, youāre fucked all right and all for spite
You can kiss your sorry ass goodbye
Jimmy hates the tests. He knows it to help everyone else, but he doesnāt like how it hurts. The doctors always tell anyone who comes in heās in no pain. They force him to lie. He doesnāt like the way the mutants they test every cure on, glare at him. They spit out how heās not one of them. How he doesnāt belong. Thereās a fight, a massive attack and he knows what will happen if they find out heās the reason the cure exists. Kitty finds him and promises to bring him to a school where they donāt care, a safe space for anyone with gifts.
Totally fucked, will they mess you up?
Well, you know theyāre gonna try
Warren hates his wings. Theyād appeared surprisingly slow; it hadnāt been a bursting of feathers and bone, nothing like that, heād simply had a backache. Upon waking up after a nap to try to sleep off the pain heās found two soft downy wings. Heād tried to cut them off, it hadnāt worked. The pain made him pass out. Theyād grown back bigger, he thought they were ornamental; the worst possible mutation for him to have, purely visual. But then heād gone running, his wing unfolded from the wrapping heād had them bundled in, and heād flown. He knew he couldnāt tell his dad, so he just kept them bandaged; when his father had found out, he hadnāt made a big fuss, just looked at Warren in the usual way that left him wanting to disappear. His wings flutter against the bandaging and he realizes he could.
Disappear, yeah, well, you wanna try
Wanna bundle up into some big ass lie
They form the X-men. Theyāre just kids, theyāre not meant to be heroes; but itās better than the labs. Itās better than being hunted and killed for things beyond their control. Itās better than being kept away out of fear. Being free, being allowed to be who they are without the fear is worth it; so theyāll put on their suits and try to save the day, no matter what side of the line theyāre on they know humans are against them. That thereās something in their very genes that marks them as different.
Long enough for them to all just quit
Long enough for you to get out of it
Yeah, youāre fucked all right and all for spite
You can kiss your sorry ass goodbye
