Signs Your Yahoomail Account Has Been Hacked

You are not receiving any emails.

If the last time you received any email/notifications were months ago, its most like your yahoo account has been hacked. To be sure your account is safe, tell a friend to send an email to you. If you do not receive it, your account may have been compromised.

In the Account security section of your account, you will see a section that contains your account recovery details. This includes an email address or password that can be used to verify your account if for some reason you get locked out.

If you do not have one, you should add one now! Add an email address and phone number that you can access any time of the day. By doing this, whenever you are locked out of your email account, you can recover the account by accessing the information that was sent to your recovery email address of phone number listed.

If you had already listed your recovery information in your account security section, check to make sure that they are accurate. Hackers can change your email address or phone number to the one they control. So check these details to make sure they are accurate.

Use the Yahoo Two-Step Verification

The two-step verification is a reliable way to keep out hackers. In this process, you are required to enter a verification pin that will be sent to the cell phone number you provided upon activation before you are able to log into your yahoo account. The only way this method can be beaten is if the hacker that accessed your account stole your mobile phone as well. This is usually a rare situation.

To use the two-step verification, go to your account security section. Towards the bottom of the page, you will see the two-step verification with a switch to turn it on or off. Turn it on and complete the process.

Check Your Other Accounts

Its common knowledge that the best of us use the same password on multiple accounts. And hackers know this. So when they hack into one account, they will use the same password and apply to all the other accounts you have on the internet. So change all the passwords to all of your other web accounts.

Then select “Yes,send me a notification”.

A notification will be sent to the app you selected.

Now tap on the “Approved icon”.

On your web browser, click on “Always us Yahoo Account Key”.

Verify and Confirm your mobile phone number.

Take note: your mobile number will be used to reconnect to your account if you loose access to your device

How to turn on Account Key from your Android or iOS device:

Download and install the latest version of the Yahoo Mail app.

Sign into your yahoomail account.

Tap on the “Menu Icon”.

Tap on the “Account Key Icon”.

Tap on “Set up Account Key”.

Select the “Approve” icon.

Tap on “Got it”.

Select “Enable Account Key”.

Tap “Great, got it”.

How to Sign in with Yahoo Account Key

As soon as you have have set up your yahoo account key, you will never have need of using a password again. All you will need to do is to approve or deny login access with the tap of your finger. And this is how you do it;

On your web browser, sign into your yahoo account page

Fill in your Username and click on “Next”

A notification will immediately be sent to your “Account Key” enabled device.

Get on your device and open the app and click on the “Account Key” icon found by your account name and tap on the “Approve” icon.

As soon as you do so, you will be required to either enter or tap on a verification code to confirm the process.

How to Manage your devices with Yahoo Account Key

To Manage your account Key from a web browser:

Sign into your Account login page.

If you are using a smartphone tap the Menu icon, then tap Account Info, then tap the Menu icon again.

Select “Account security”.

Click on “Manage” when you get to “Yahoo Account Key.”

You can turn on or off of any device you want by clicking on the toggle to the right of the device.

You can also switch back to using passwords by clicking on “Disable Account Key”.

If you have yahoo mail app installed in your device, tap on the “Menu” icon.
