david’s never liked driving -- well, that’s not true. he has a little Ford at home that he’d steal from his father to take down to the Hudson on the weekends -- but he doesn’t like THIS driving, if that’s what you could call what Liebgott’s doing now, grasping at the wheel in front of him as though it might come loose while the cigarette in his mouth threatens to escape from clenched teeth . . .  he’s got his own arms and legs crossed and is scrunched up against the side of the truck just as far as he can manage, as though directing his body away will somehow free him from this metal tomb failing to conceal whatever sinister thoughts are cooking in the other man’s mind.
