On this night, the sky seemed to open up its arms to the stars- more so than usual, the glittering patterns providing the light alongside their lunar counterpart.
The air was crisp and a reminder that Whitney had the right idea to wear long sleeves- though her shorts allowed for goosebumps to make way across her legs as they carried her from the bookstore. Lately, the brunette wanted to take in every source of external inspiration she could get- starting with a new journal, and the moon rays casting down onto the trees on her way home.
She took it all in, senses glued to each detail the world around her provided; and when coming upon the beautiful church about two blocks down from her apartment, Whit decided to see if she could make her way in…. just to sit down and take in the grand architecture she was sure it was filled with. Years of living there, she hadn’t ever been in- she’d always wanted to see what it looked like, admiring the ornate stained glass windows drawing her in just for themselves; the edges and sculpting decorating the frames of the windows and doors….
And finally, there was a chance she’d get to see it- maybe spend a few minutes to just breathe and write about what she feels… what she sees…
Slowly, quiet as a mouse, Whitney made her way into the church- making sure to close the side door with gentle care before making her way to a lone pew. The lights were off completely, but those moon rays were at it again; providing an even more breathtaking light through the windows- hues of golds, greens, blues…. It was seemingly from another world. A hushed, “wow….” escaped her throat before she jumped out of her skin. Shit. Someone was here.
Immediately sensing their irritation, Whitney shifted in the pew, heart beating a million per second as she started to get up- it was a shame, there was finally a feeling of welcoming within a church, one she’d never felt before, and it had to end so quickly. A frog caught in her throat, it was obvious that the woman was startled when she fumbled through her next words,
“Oh- I- I’m so sorry, I thought it was empty.. didn’t mean to disturb.”
