Happy Birthday WTB! Another year of birding has flown by and we couldn't have done it without our WhatsTheBirders. To celebrate, let's dive in to some of 2025s stats.
This will be a long one, so for ease of scrolling the goods are under the cut. :)
Most birds posted
A little appreciation for our most active contributes this year.
1. strawberrygiorno 58 2. empidonax 27 3. nohriantomatoes 26 4. finalgirlart 23 5. etchif 22
As of 17Nov2025 user @/strawberrygiorno takes the crown again with 58 birds posted. Long-time followers know that strawberry was last years top submitter as well. But! I'd watch out, seems word has gotten out about the blog and one user in particular has given us quite the pool to choose from. Think they could claim the title for 2026?
Check out this chart comparing this years top 5 to how much they submitted last year.
This blog would not be possible without your constant submissions.
Least Correct Answer
This year's trickiest bird? Eeyup, the Red-shoulder Hawk by @/monopeptide. Bird-640 stumped us all with only 7.6% correct guesses out of 211 votes. Quick!

Thanks @/empidonax for the second bird option <3
2025 Accuracy Check
We better study up for 2026! Our accuracy has decreased since last year by 3%. In 2024 we were correct 50% of the time, now we are only correct 47% of the time. Could it be the show results?
Species Count
This year we had a whopping 282 different species to add to our WTB life lists. We just barely beat out last year's 276. Pine Siskin, Purple Finch, and the Common Merganser were the most sighted birds this year with four posts each. Any bets on next years?
Locations
Believe it or not, we are far less traveled this year. This year, we only visited 47 locations, compared to last years 62. Minnesota reigns supreme again with 99 posts. Our big 5 stayed mostly the same, with the only change being UK breaking into the top. Here is a chart comparing this years top 5 to last years numbers.
Special thanks to submitters like @/etchif, for helping Europe gain more representation this year.
Correct Answer Distribution
Ever wonder how random our random number generator is? Here is the breakdown of how often the correct option lands in a specific spot.
Answer Slot : Percentage
1 : 19% 2 : 18% 3 : 23% 4 : 25% 5 : 13%
Maybe the strategy is to always pick answer choice four?
That's it for this year! Thank you all for making this project such a joy, your enthusiastic support keeps WTB soaring. Cheers to another year of birding with you all!
