The Sorting Ceremony
A battered, old wizard’s hat perched on top of a four-legged stool. It was covered in patches, brim frayed and dirty, but every eye in the Great Hall remained fixed on it in silence. Suddenly the hat seemed to tear itself open and from its gaping mouth, it began to sing...
As the last note of the hat’s song faded, the hall erupted into applause and cheering. Professor McGonagall stepped forward with her scroll of names.
