July 17. Listen. I’ve done so much in the last few weeks you don’t even know. I went to St. Mark’s Place. I went to Greenwich Village. I went to Washington Square Park. I spent days in Soho. I spent two entire weekends high with people I barely met. I found a new avenue to get incredibly delicious edibles. I talked to someone who’s life story has an actual plot, who has gone through so much pain but is also a Nobel laureate (and a current Columbia student). I paid for someone’s first tattoo. I went to 10 different coffee shops in the past 5 days. I hailed a cab for the first time. I figured out how to get to the Upper East Side without using the crosstown shuttles. I walked someone’s dog. I got an SO. I petted maybe 40 dogs. The last of whom was today and was a light brown husky (brown where the grey usually is) and had two differently colored eyes. I was inches away from getting a second, very expensive, tattoo for myself. I got paid. I made out with someone on the roof of a campus building. I had burgers for dinner two nights in a row, both of which were the best burgers I’ve ever had. I jammed with incredible musicians. I discovered a jazz bar. I went to Chinatown. I met my friends from high school. I CAVAed one of my friends from high school. I discovered a Columbia tunnel. I sent actual letters on actual parchment paper to real people. I’ve had so much to drink and feel and see and experience this summer and I regret that I’m too busy taking classes to tell you but this right here is a pretty good summary of what it’s been like. Only just recently have I come to realize that New York City truly is the city that never sleeps, and if I so wanted I could never sleep as well. I have so much freedom.
