the long and short is exotrauma (exo being “outside”) is “trauma” not actually experienced. so if your kin type was abused, you believe that you have then been abused. believing that trauma you have not bodily experienced has just as much impact on you as real, actual trauma.
basically it’s fucking gross

god i love the office
all the characters are deftly written and dimensional, they all have layers to them and aren’t just stereotypes.
i also love the way they handle satire.
michael, usually, does stupidly ignorant things. he does things that are racist, homophobic, ableist, etc. but rarely does anyone agree with him. the show makes a point to display his behaviors as stupid, and wrong. but also shows that they’re not from a place of malice, but ignorance. and while not everyone can be as well meaning as michael, i really appreciate that no one justifies what he does and it’s very obvious that everyone thinks hes an idiot for it.
that’s part of why diversity day, gay witch hunt and the injury are some of the best episodes imo, it really shows that the writers are not willing to use bigoted humor for anything other than displaying how annoying it is.

racial appropriation is specific but appropriation in general is taking anything you don’t have the right to and using it for a personal agenda.
racial and cultural are the most prominent forms, however within the areas of mental illness, MANY symptoms are taken and used as jokes or quirky caricatures. system related symptoms are some of the largest victims of this.
