Since you've had a history of dogs, I wanted to ask: How soon is too soon after one passes? My family adopted a small pup from a local rescue and had him for less than a week before he passed from parvovirus (he was only 10 weeks old). It's been hard to bounce back to what life was like before, but we've all gone back to wanting another furry companion. With our last dog (technically my first) we waited a year before adopting, but it was a very long year.
Iām so sorry for your loss :( I donāt think thereās aĀ ātoo soonā at all. Every person is different. Some people need a new companion to help them cope, and get one right away! Others donāt feel ready for a while, a year or more. Thereās no right answer. No one should condemn a person for not waiting long enough, or waiting too long. Donāt let people pressure you either - make sure you find exactly who youāre looking for. Many times, itās unexpected but you feel that connection without even intending to!
For myself, weāve always had multiple dogs and didnāt necessarily get another just because or after one passed⦠the exception being Bandit. After we had to put him down, I started looking at other breeds within a couple weeks, and we had River within a couple months. It just depends on the person and their situation, and how they cope with the loss.
Just remember, youāre neverĀ replacing a pet - just adding onto the love.
