Review: Bird By Bird
Review: Bird By Bird
Bird By Bird, Anne Lamott. New York: Anchor Books, 1994. Summary: Anne Lamottâs advice to her writing students, basically, âalmost every single thing I know about writing.â Anne Lamott grew up around a father who wrote. She learned, along with prisoners he taught, to put a little down on a piece of paper every day, and to read lots of great books and plays and that we all have a lot in us toâŚ

Boredom busters
My friends and I found that nothing can be boring with your F/O around so I'm here to test that!
Send in a prompt and your favourite of my characters and I'll write a little paragraph of how they make tgat boring activity fun.
Being stuck in traffic
Standing in line
Being on hold
Junk mail
Slow internet
Watching adverts
The routine of everyday life
Sitting in a waiting room
Queuing in the post office
Having no money
Tidying up the house
Waiting in for a delivery
Doing the washing-up
Waiting for/Delayed trains
No wifi/signal
Watching paint dry
Waiting for a lift
Pausing your show to wait for someone.
Waiting for a download/update
Another boring activity (pick you're own)
Special thanks too @pureangleda, @snowflakeimagines and @rainbowut for helping we come up with this idea.
Who are we writing for?
Who are we writing for?
I caught a snippet of a discussion in which I was not really involved, yesterday, about the two souls of fantasy fighting each other. The crux of the contention was, should writers play for the high-brow, sophisticated readers, or should they be down-and-dirty, catering for the lowest common denominator?
Which is a nice conceptual framework, and I guess an interesting topic for discussion whileâŚ

Rei : oh dear me, it's sooner than I planned, huh
Shougo : what is nii-san?
Rei : proposing (nonchalant)
Shougo : huh? (Surprised) what?
Rei : what's what?
Shougo : i mean, what kind of proposing? (Flustered)
Rei : marriage of course...
Shougo : with Haruka-san!?
Rei : (fazed) Shougo, you're my brother, aren't you? Who else im currently dating right now? Please...
Shougo : (rendered speechless) [stupid nii-san, i mean looked around you! There's father, Ryuu-nii san, Nishiyama old man, and mother! How come you talk about proposing her so casually in front of them!]

When your posts are so long...
It gets hard for me to sit down sometimes to get them done! Â
Whatâs worse is if youâre like me and not only can you not help but let ALL your thoughts flow out as youâre writing...but you find you write best if you do it all in one sitting -_-
How do you write, by hand, on the laptop, on a tablet? Do you outline? Or you wing it? What's your ideal writing conditions?
I write on either my desktop or laptop, whichever computer I happen to be using at the time! My handwriting is atrocious unless I write very slowly.
I outline depending on the story - R&R has an outline, but other fics just have bullet points written down - and for most oneshots or short fics I wing it haha.Â
Ideal writing conditions is quiet, alone, no background noises or distractions - Iâm much more efficient if Iâm just focused on whatever Iâm writing haha.
Thank you for the ask! ⼠TMI Thursday! Ask me Things! âĽ
