I'm currently re-reading a Romantasy by one of my favorite authors. It's a wonderful story, but she occasionally throws modern references and slang in there and when they happen it's jarring. Takes me right out of the story. In a fantasy kingdom where gold, silver, and copper are the currency, telling someone that you're "just giving my two cents" on a subject is nonsensical and utterly modern USA. Likewise, having them eat at a quaint kingdom cafe and rave about how they can't wait to order a green bean casserole (a staple of American Thanksgiving) is like taking a can of french-fried onions to the face. Does this make you crazy, too? Or am I entirely too pedantic?
I’m going to write a story about this cat someday.
I think one of the hardest things about writing fanfics for our boys is that....there's this big yearning to have an amazing villain. But I'm so unwilling to use any of our boys as that villain.
