3. Company
She sits next to him, her mucky brown hair tied back in a painfully tight and tangled fashion. She does not say anything, nor does the bedraggled street sleeper next to her. He peers down at her, the tiny, delicate figure that sits cross-legged watching the people pass-by with more wide-eyed curiosity than he’s felt in a long time. They sit together like this as minutes tick by, enjoying the silent companionship. They find comfort in one another’s presence. A woman storms out of the shop door nearby and shouts to the girl “come on you ungrateful little-“, the girl stands up and walks towards the woman, her feet still slightly unsteady as they balance her weight, one foot in front of the other. He watches her go, sad but thankful for the moment she gave to him.
