with opera i think that while most of the characters don't draw from Any One Thing there's a very heavy verdi influence going on... necessarily in the writing but in the whole cycle of violence parents-affecting-their-kids thing. and hugo's overprotectiveness of rosepaw Does stem from rigoletto of course LMAO but otherwise they are different characters; this is what happens when you code up a clangen while in the throes of rigoletto (1951) obsession once more. (in fact the name hugo is a reference to victor hugo) oh and yellowstar and willowfang's dynamic is inspired by tom rakewell and nick shadow. which could mean anything

also not opera but ive gotta say willowfang's design is both 1) to elkmask convocations what a plastic oil toy dinosaur is to a fossil and 2) probably based on this fuck ass cartoon that gave me the heebie jeebies as a kid and which NOBODY else remembers
