I discovered the Disgaea series by chance, starting with the very first title released in 2003 on the PlayStation 2, and it was love at first sight.

While the first game left me satisfied with its ending, the second (which held the top spot in my heart for nearly 20 years) left me with a lingering sense of dissatisfaction. I wanted to know more about Zenon, and it bothered me that Adell never discovered he was a demon.

The third title, on the other hand, has a story and ending that, personally, don't leave me wanting more. Maybe it's because of how old I was when it came out, but the school setting has never really appealed to me.

The fourth game, a favorite for many, I would have liked more if not for the presence of Fenrich and Fuka.

The fifth title was a revelation and would have dethroned Disgaea 2 from its number one spot, if not for the facts that Liezerota wasn't truly dead and that Goldion and Void join the party in the post-game.

The sixth, much like the third, is a game that doesn't make me want to know more, and it's also held back by being an isekai, a genre I'm not particularly fond of.

And that brings us to the seventh chapter. Due to a series of coincidences (tough personal and work periods) I didn't even know it had been released. Then, in February 2025, I had to undergo a histology exam (it went well, thankfully, but I didn't know that at the time). My sister told me that Disgaea 7 was available on Nintendo Switch and that I should buy it to take my mind off things.

And that's when I was struck by lightning. It was helped by the fact that Hinomoto is inspired by Japan, and by the deeply personal story Fuji endured from the day his mother, Fuyo, died to save him. I also absolutely loved Pirilika, the relationship she builds with Fuji, and the fact that their fathers had clashed without either of them knowing it.

But then, when I finished the game and discovered that the Empathy Killer curse remains, even in the post-game, I felt the same sense of frustration I had with Disgaea 2. It made any kind of real development for Fuji and Pirilika feel impossible. On top of that, we never see if Suisen will become a demon again, nothing can develop between Yeyasu and Higan because of her appetite, and nothing happens with Ceefore and Nitra after Ao's Postlude (where she becomes a demon).

But while I was able to find fanfiction for Disgaea 2, the Italian fandom for Disgaea 7 has had no fanfiction since 2015. The other well-known site where I read had none for Disgaea 7 either. And on Ao3, the only ones that weren't Fuji/Yeyasu (and to be clear, everyone is free to have their preferred ships) were three one-shots, only one of which even tried to hypothesize that maybe, just maybe, removing the Empathy Killer was possible.

With The Path I Want to Follow reaching, and even surpassing, 2000 hits, it is time for a special celebratory Behind the Scenes update!

Since writing Part 4 of the Behind the Scenes series, I have added two new bonus chapters to Path.

One of them will contain the remastered version of Fuji’s surprise during his first year in Wahei, which was removed from One Crazy Ordeal for Our Fuji in preparation for that story’s own future remastered edition.

The second will include several extra scenes from Chapter 102 that I spent a long time debating whether to include in the main narrative or not, and I hope you will enjoy them.

And that is not all! Two additional bonus chapters are also planned for the future. One was inspired by a very special reader, while the other came to me while rereading certain parts of the story.

That same reader also encouraged me to revisit Conviction is What Makes Me, Me! Once Path reaches Chapter 100, you will be able to read the first three chapters of the new version.

The story now begins directly from the corresponding chapter of Path, removing all scenes involving a certain OC, and no longer alternates between Ao’s and Suisen’s POVs. The result is a more unified and ensemble-driven narrative.

As for Mugai’s prequel, I have not forgotten about that story. However, at the moment I am dealing with some personal difficulties that make it hard for me to approach the more delicate themes explored in Chapter 8. If all goes well, I believe it should be published next week.

“Fuji! Pii-Chan! We did it!” Pirilika exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.

“I never thought Fuji would actually keep his word… the device is still intact!” Pii-Chan said in amazement.

“Hmph. Don’t underestimate me, beakface. After all, I know how to use the Anu-Kai Vision despite my young age,” Fuji declared proudly.

“Only after that training session where you asked to borrow my body,” Pirilika replied teasingly. “And I still haven’t decided the interest rate.”

Fuji instantly turned redder than the flames embroidered on his hakama.

“Pisillyka! Don’t say things like that in front of Pii-Chan!”

“So saying them in front of other people is acceptable?”

Fuji opened his mouth to argue back, but before he could answer, the counter suddenly reached 2001.

The device began to vibrate violently and, a second later, it exploded into a shower of confetti and streamers that swallowed Fuji completely.

When he finally emerged from the avalanche of paper, dozens of sticky notes were attached to his clothes, hair, and arms.

“What the hell are these?” Fuji grumbled.

Pii-Chan grabbed the first sticky note stuck to Fuji’s leg.

“Fuji’s first Waheiese word was ‘Pawaloha,’” he read aloud.

Pirilika picked another one from Fuji’s shoulder.

“Fuji is currently twenty-seven turns of the Dark Sun, and Pirilika is twenty-two.”

Fuji pulled one off his arm.

“Starting tomorrow, the trial against Lord Veyral will begin.”

Pii-Chan grabbed another sticky note and read the first few words aloud.

“The real name of Pii-Chan is—”

The yellow Prinny immediately ripped the paper in little pieces and swallowed them whole.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Fuji and Pirilika screamed in perfect unison.

Fuji tore another memo free from his chest.

“There’s a hidden counter, and if it reaches 2500, it will reveal a surprise from Celestia.”

“Really?” Pirilika gasped. “Pii-Chan, to celebrate, I order you to perform the Prinny Dance! Every Prinny knows how to do it.”

“Your personal secretary shall do even better, Miss Pirilika.”

With a dramatic flap of both flippers, a disco ball descended from nowhere alongside an entire DJ console.

“Where were you even hiding those?” Fuji asked.

“That information is classified.”

Music suddenly blasted through the room, and as Pii-Chan spun dramatically beneath the disco lights, Pirilika grabbed Fuji by the arm and pulled him toward the center of the room.

“Come on, Fuji. When we ever get a chance to dance together like this?”

“You’ll find out once I make you a certain proposal.”

Pirilika blinked.

“Really? What proposal?”

Fuji smirked and folded his arms.

Dear readers, the final part of One Crazy Ordeal for Our Fuji remaster is now out!

This means the full remaster is officially finished!

From 44k+ → 61k+ words, the story has been expanded into 5 full arcs + new interludes, with major additions and reworking throughout.

To celebrate the first anniversary of this story, the first part of the remaster is now live, covering arcs 1 to 3, plus its two interludes.

This version includes:

an original new prologue

expanded scenes

and entirely new additions, including the summoning of the Defenders of Earth

The second part of the remaster will:

split the fourth arc in two

introduce a new interlude

and include an additional bonus chapter

The part of the ninth arc after chapter 104 and arc ten were originally meant to be the first arc of the sequel to The Path I Want to Follow, but they were included in the Path story to give readers complete freedom to decide whether or not to read the third and conclusive part of Fuji and Pirilika's adventures.

In the sequel, The Path We Walk Together, in addition to the main Disgaea 7 cast, four OCs will join, forming the new generation. We have already met one of them in chapter 24 of Path. We will meet another one later in the story. The third, who was originally only hinted at as a gag in Conviction, will appear in the final arc of Path. The fourth will be briefly introduced in Conviction.

Writing the sequel to a story like Path is not easy, and only time will tell if it will be a worthy successor or a disappointment. What I do know is that the idea that changed the ending of Path was born from genuine enthusiasm for what Walk could become, and for now, that is enough for me.

Walk was supposed to be released in autumn alongside Conviction, but since I have to rewrite Conviction from scratch without the original material, and after finishing the Ordeal remaster I will take a period of rest, we will see if a parallel release is still possible.

And finally, some fun facts:

Hinomoto and Wahei each have one village where the population is the same, namely succubi. But while Honi Honi Village in Path has a kind and understanding leader like Lunadia, Sapphire Vale in Conviction has a tough and unyielding leader like Naamah. Additionally, the succubi of Hinomoto have the Succubi Network, which appeared in Conviction and which we will also discover in Path.

The most difficult OCs to write due to the sensitive themes associated with them were an angel we will discover in Path and Tenbuyer's family in Conviction.

Besides Pii Chan's lore, I had also planned lore for Opener and Cannonline, but it didn't fit well with the story of Path. This will be developed in a one-shot or at most a few chapters.

The story of Higan was meant to be a one-shot dedicated only to her and Fuji, but then, don't ask me why, I woke up one morning and told myself I wanted to try writing her entire past before Disgaea 7, which resulted in 12 chapters averaging 1800 words each.

The Yeyasu and Ceefore one-shot will happen, but I am evaluating how and where to insert it within the series.

Each main story, meaning Ordeal, Path, and Conviction, and Walk in the future, has a running gag. In Ordeal, Fuji gets interrupted just as he's about to discover who kidnapped Pirilika and what the surprise at Veldime is. In Path, Pii Chan's past and name always get interrupted. In Conviction, Suisen always gets interrupted just as he's about to do two certain things related to Ao.

The Infernal Treasure that received the most power ups in my stories is Suisen's Zenchi Kintoki.

There was a post publication correction in Path, due to my Italian mind reading 12 1 as January 12 instead of December 1, since in Italy dates are written with the day first, then the month. So I had to correct the temporal reference for Ao's birthday.

When I decided to try writing the first chapter of The Path I Want to Follow, I had almost no plans, only some hints about Fuji and Pirilika's events in Conviction and the fact that Path was meant to be a sequel to Ordeal.

Additionally, part of the hesitation that had kept me from writing Path earlier was that within the fandom, in terms of ships, there were no stories exploring a possible future for Fuji and Pirilika. So I decided to simply write my personal vision without outside influences, while trying to handle the theme of the five year age difference between Fuji and Pirilika.

When Path was published at the end of July, I had written the first 11 chapters, and the release schedule was one chapter per week because I wanted to reread each chapter multiple times before publishing it.

Over time, the publication schedule shifted to two chapters per week since the story is now completely written. However, I won't increase the number of posting days except for special occasions, because each chapter is reread three times. Each time, I evaluate whether I can add additional scenes or revise the already written ones in light of previous chapters.

This careful process led to Kakutomeki, who in my initial intentions was meant to remain defeated after his appearance at the museum, surviving instead and allying himself with Lord Veyral.

As for the Overlord of Graavemire, I had nothing predetermined, only the desire to create an enemy with a plausible reason for resentment toward Opener.

And Lord Veyral in his original version was also supposed to be defeated after just a few appearances to make room for another series of adversaries.

But as you know, things turned out completely differently.

The lore of Pii Chan was born instead from the snippets that the yellow Prinny himself tells Fuji in the Nethership. Upon completion of the eighth arc, we will learn what I consider to be Pii Chan's true name, as well as an additional lore.

Since Path was written without too many constraints in my mind, the story ended up having three endings. Initially, I had decided to end the story at chapter 104. So when that chapter is published, know that the second to last scene was the original conclusion of Path.

After that, I decided to write one final arc to reveal another fundamental event in the lives of Fuji and Pirilika, closing at chapter 126 with a timeskip.

My sister told me that this time, I should write for myself what I wanted to read.

After I objected that besides not knowing how to draw, I had never written anything in my entire life, she told me she had a profile on Ao3 that I could use to try it out. That's why, alongside the Disgaea stories, there are also AFK stories, because she's the author of those.

I tried to write the first chapter of One Crazy Ordeal for Our Fuji, which in my initial intentions was meant to be a long one-shot. But then, the day before my birthday, my sister published the draft I had written up to that point, convinced it was my birthday and wanting to surprise me.

After a few days, I gathered my courage and rewatched all the scenes from Disgaea 7 to find a workable idea for removing the Empathy Killer curse.

While reviewing the effect the Demonic Bow Zenryo Yoichi had on Fuji, even if unfortunately only temporary, I had an idea that led me to write all 42 chapters, leaving an ending open to the imagination and inviting readers to suggest future scenarios.

The only proposal I received, as you can see in chapter 42, was to write the story of Ao and Suisen, which became Conviction is What Makes Me, Me. This meant transforming the gag of Fuji as Suisen's father-in-law, mentioned jokingly by Ceefore, into something concrete.

While in Ordeal I had a starting foundation for lore and worldbuilding, in Conviction I had complete creative freedom.

This allowed me to write some one-shots and extra chapters for Ordeal based on certain lines from Conviction. However, it also led to mistakes due to inexperience, such as not publishing according to a schedule that would let me review the thread of the chapters before posting.

In some chapters of Conviction, which unfortunately I can no longer show because it was the only story where my backup was lost, and therefore when it returns in autumn it will necessarily be a new story, I had also written tangentially about how some key events in the lives of Fuji and Pirilika had impacted Ao's life.
