atmos : lime wharf - kitchen experiment
I was lucky enough to meet Thomas Ermacora when we were both talking at FuturePerfect (the Scandinavian sustainability festival) a few years ago. We became friends, and begun to collaborate. Thomas was an early key investor in Worldscape, and a great supporter of Global Feast last year, and we began to plot plans (as well, as we hope to show soon, to plan pots).
We were delighted when he decided to host Worldscape at Lime Wharf , his extensive emerging arts laboratory space in Vyner Street, where he used the table to stage a series of salons and events exploring, food, culture and the wider environment.
Continuing his background as a restauranteur and chef, Lime Wharf ran a series of food and culture events called the Kitchen Experiment. Thomas collaborated on an astonishing menu with the incomparable chef Anna Hansen (the Modern Pantry), whom we first met when she agreed to cook (amazing stuff) for our New Zealand night at Global Feast.
The evenings began with music from various maestros in the courtyard, before everyone gathered around a rearrangement of Worldscape. To fit in the long canal-side gallery, we split the table into 4; Visitors entered just above Alaska, and slowly sauntered down to the Southern Hemisphere, ending at the International Date Line.

Atmos : World Series - Mini World Table and Mountstool
—MiniWorld Table—
Worldscape is a piece of landscape furniture initially designed for Latitudinal Cuisine, to host the guests to the London Olympics.
The World Series is generated from the same large-scale data - but for smaller-scale spaces, and local people.
We designed this new series of furniture - comprising tables, chairs and stools - to exhibit at 100% Design in Earls court.
The World Table - a Mini-Worldscape - was initially designed at two scales - 1 1200mm long, and 1 2400mm long. The 1200mm one can be used as a tea table for two, or as a display table, while the 2400mm is a an ample dining table seating up to 10 people.
The surface is inscribed with both mountain and underwater contours, peppered by the world capitals and megacities, and gridded by latitudes and longitudes. The tables are designed to use interlocking joints and simple brackets with concealed fixings.
Mountstool samples the extremities of the Andes and the Himalayas, flipping the mountainous data to offer its sitter a flat sea-level surface of laminated strips that balance on reflected mountain peaks. The stool’s sectional construction cradles a rich archaeology of complex cavework, encouraging exploration - and doubling as storage.
