- Wait 5 minutes, then ask for help. If you get stuck on something, try to figure it out on your own first. I find that if I am patient and think about it for a little (or if I Google it), the answer usually comes to me. If not, don’t hesitate to approach any of us!
- Doublecheck. Read your emails over before you send them, and you might save yourself typo trouble! If you’re sending an email to someone much higher up than you, read it over again.
- Keep Track. When you work on projects, keep a running list. That will help you with your resume/any school reporting, and it will help us with your review!
- Be professional, but let your personality come through. Yes, this is where we all work so we have to be professional… but we’re also really fun people. Get to know us! It makes every day more fun.
- Network like crazy. Meet everyone you can! Especially the ones that may be able to help you later. Let us know if you need an introduction and we are happy to help! When your internship is almost over, get people (especially us) to give you résumé advice.
- Use the power of lunch. I wasn’t joking when I said lunch is all that matters! Lunch is actually an important tool you should use wisely. Most interns eat with other interns, which is great for building community. But when you want to meet or talk to someone new, lunch is perfect for casual conversation. Eat with us! Eat with people you’ve never met before but sound interesting!
- Help us help you… help us… help… you. Everyone has their own strengths and interests. Be clear about what kinds of projects you want to work on. You won’t always get to choose your own projects but taking initiative is highly encouraged.
- Ask how you can do more/better. It’s a hard question to ask, but it’s VERY helpful to gauge how well you are doing. That way you can improve.
- Do all the free stuff. We have free art classes, free movie screenings, free training, free yoga, free food, free DVD rentals, etc. Take advantage of it!
- Have Fun. I don’t even have to tell you this, because it’s gonna happen.
