Pimped Out

My business partner had invited an associate of hers to lunch. It was early in the development of our design office and we were hungry (literally and figuratively). We were milking all of our contacts and this was just one more. Usually nothing concrete came from these, but it was a chance to reconnect and get our name out there. In any case my partner’s friend Andrea was working for a marketing & branding company and if there was a chance to partner up on some work, we were eager for it. I had never met Andrea, but had heard about her a number of times. I was shocked to find a fine Asian woman walk through the door. Her last name being Léon, I figured she was French or Canadian, or at least some variety of caucasian. She immediately picked up on my surprise and explained that her father had dropped the 'g' when he immigrated to the states. Her family was Leong. I introduced myself and the three of us set about chatting. When it came time for lunch I excused myself as I had some other errands to attend to. Andrea suggested I join them, but I could not. She smiled and insistantly asked "You sure?" I reallly couldn't. When I returned to the office later that afternoon, my parter was giggling. I smiled as I knew something was up. "She likes you." What? I barely met Andrea. We laughed a little and everything was pleasant, but it seemed too quick and business like to get to that stage. Whatever. "That's flattering” I said, and thought the issue was over. But my partner continued with "She invited us to a party." 

"Us… to what party?" I asked. 

"Well, actually you, and it's not her party" 

"Sounds suspiciously like a blind date set up."

"You've already met her"

"What makes you think I'll do it?"

"Cuz I told her you were single, available, and looking, plus you need to get out"

"I suppose you are doing this for me, then"

"No, I'm doing it for the business"

"Nice"

"Don't worry, I told Andrea not to expect too much"

"What the hell, does that mean?"

"She thinks you're yummy. Those are her words"

"What!?"

"I know! But I didn't want her to expect you to put out"

"Thanks, that's generous of you. And what are you doing tonight that precludes joining us?"

"Nothing, I just don't want to go. You know parties are not my thing."

"Nice. This is a first. Anything else I need to know about your friend?"

"It's been a while for her, but no pressure."

"You suck"

“I know, too bad, suck it up”
