"Why are you still open, again?" Soohyuk cocked his head to the side. "If I came here last week, I'd be an hour late."
"Nocturnals, they change rules sometimes."
"Ah - " He nodded slowly as he leaned over the counter and watched as slender fingers pressed antique buttons and pulled a receipt.
"Wandering good-for-nothing artists," She smiled, somehow endearingly at that. "The usual."
Soohyuk took his receipt and hesitated before looking up at her, giving her a smirk, and pulling away. He stood upright, his tall and slouched lanky figure moving towards his muse: a chair. Every so often he'd come here, this midnight cafe downtown. Not many people come at night, there's no difference than an early morning anyway, there's just less light outside. No noise, no disfunction, no people except a waitress that he'd knock someday.
Or did he already? Soohyuk shook his head, he couldn't recall.
His seat was the same, almost unused. During the daylight everyone wanted to avoid the windows, for some reason. The east side of the cafe, maybe nobody had the patience to wait for the sun to set. Yeah, that was good enough.
"Here," The same slender fingers put down a hot mug of coffee.
Soohyuk's hand reached over before she could take it back and held onto her hand, looking at his cup and then up to the pale skin he only met a few weeks ago. "Since when did I get bumped up to the 'mug' status?"
She smiled, said nothing and took her hand back as she headed back for the next customer. Though once Soohyuk realized that there was someone else here, he sighed softly. He didn't look at the guy for long, it wasn't as though it'd matter. He was probably just a lost nocturnal soul like him, with nowhere to go and nothing else to see but black and the little bits of light that wish they were big enough to blind us so we could avoid them in the morning.
"I really should become a poet," Soohyuk murmured to himself as he picked up a sugar packet. He'd make more money writing one poem than doing what he's been doing for all his life, but nevertheless - it's why it was worth while.
