I walked into town for breakfast before meeting the girls. Felt a little rough and didn’t know if it was the drama or the alcohol from the previous night. I found a cafe on the edge of the market off bach dang street. I ordered a ham and cheese (they rarely use real cheese, this time as with most was a cheese spread) baguette. When the girls arrived we walked around the market for a while and then I took them to the banh mi place I’d eaten at yesterday as they too wanted to try it. We all ordered the bbq one, it wasn’t as busy and it was a different group of people making them but it was still just as good.
Didnt do much except rest til we met again for dinner, opted for a seafood riverside restaurant. I ordered the crispy noodles with seafood which was great plus shared a portion of won tons with Katrine. The won tons were totally different to those I’ve always had before. They were open and flat deep fried squares of pastry with mixed veg and pineapple, meat and a sweet and sour style sauce. Amazing. We popped into Mo’s Tavern for cocktails. It was 2-4-1 plus a free bucket of drink each. Turns out the bucket is just a plastic cup and the cocktails weren’t great. My strawberry frozen daiquiri was really disappointing. Cuba revs version was much better. I only drank my mai tai and left the others (wasn’t in the mood to drink after last night). We watched the fireworks by the river and were possibly the best I’d seen. It was lovely to see the streets filled with happy faces, tourists joining in with the locals. It was a really nice atmosphere. There were fairground rides, even more food stalls, balloons and hundreds of floating lanterns being released on the river. I really regretted not asking about paying to be on a boat to do the lanterns and watch the show from there, but nevermind. We ended our night with the party of backpackers in Tiger Tiger. There were confetti canons, dancing on the tables and the macarena! I almost left soon after the fireworks as I didn’t feel in the mood but didn’t want to walk back to the hotel alone so stayed. Pleased I did as the music got cheesier and I even joined in dancing for a while.
