❛❛ I brought blankets, takeout, and your favourite movie. I know it won’t fix everything, but it might help. ❜❜ for Evie and Kaden?? I feel like it's too perfect for them
It had only been two days since Hodge Starkweather had been sentenced with betraying the Clave and imprisoned in the City of Bones. He’d made a final request to see Evangeline Calloway one last time and Brother Isiah had made the trip to the New York Institute to deliver the news to the young shadowhunter - and to ask whether or not she would oblige.Â
Ever since Brother Isiah had left, leaving her to consider whether or not she would be attending the City of Bones on Hodge’s request, Evie had retreated into herself and was a far cry from her usual, sarcastic, self. She hadn’t even spoken to Alec which had everyone more than a little concerned, as the pair hadn’t gone a day without talking to one another since they’d met at eleven years old.Â
When Kaden turned up at Evie’s bedroom door, she was met with Alec, who sat helplessly on the ground, his back leaning against the firmly locked door. “No luck?” She asked, despite the answer being obvious. Alec shook his head, no. “Mind if I try?”Â
“Be my guest…” Alec said as he got to his feet, gesturing for Kaden to knock on the door. “I’ve got to call Magnus, but let her know that i’ll be back?”Â
“Of course.” Kaden nodded, and smiled as Alec walked away before turning her attention to Evie’s closed bedroom door. She rapped her knuckles against it a couple of times before she spoke. “I brought blankets, take out, and your favourite movie. I know it wont fix everything Evie, but it might help.”Â
There was a moments silence, and then Kaden heard shuffling on the other side of the door, it was eventually pulled open and Kaden caught a glimpse of Evie Calloway. She looked nothing like her usual self, the colour was drained from her usually bright skin, her eyes were sunken into their sockets either as a result of exhaustion or crying, perhaps both.Â
“Keanu Reeves’ Speed?” Evie asked and Kaden nodded slowly. “…and…”
Kaden held up the bag of food. “Portalled from the Beijing Institute, your mom cooked the dumplings herself.”Â
Evie stepped aside, allowing Kaden to enter her bedroom - things weren’t okay, and they weren’t going to be made better by Keanu Reeves and homemade dumplings, but they were definitely a step in the right direction.Â
